Aizawl, April, 2026 : Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) today interacted with students of Shalom Special School, Serchhip, at the Durbar Hall of Lok Bhavan in Aizawl. The group is currently undertaking a 10-day study tour from April 13 to 23, organised by the Serchhip Battalion of the Assam Rifles. The itinerary includes visits to Aizawl, Silchar, Shillong and Cherrapunji, aimed at broadening the students’ learning experiences beyond the classroom.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh lauded the initiative of Assam Rifles as both meaningful and commendable, noting that such exposure plays a crucial role in building confidence and widening perspectives, particularly for specially abled children. He also acknowledged the commitment of teachers, caregivers and parents, whose sustained efforts, he said, form the backbone of the students’ progress. Expressing optimism about the long-term impact of the tour, the Governor said it would contribute positively to the overall development of the students as well as the institution. He further urged the Assam Rifles to continue extending support to the school wherever possible.

The interaction saw the students presenting a token of appreciation to the Governor and sharing their experiences from the tour. A brief overview of the school’s activities and highlights from the trip were also presented during the programme.

Shalom Special School, Serchhip was founded on August 17, 2005, by former Chief Minister Mr. Lal Thanhawla. The foundation stone of its present building was laid in January 2010 by the Governor during his tenure as Eastern Army Commander, with construction later carried out by the 4th Battalion of Assam Rifles under its Military Civic Action programme.

At present, Shalom Special School in Serchhip has an enrollment of 36 specially abled students.
