Fusion Music Evening Marks Silver Jubilee Celebration

Melodies Resonate at Bali Auditorium, Lucknow

Lucknow, April 2026 : A captivating fusion of melody, rhythm, and tempo marked the silver jubilee celebration of tabla maestro Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim’s musical journey on Wednesday at the Rai Umanath Bali Auditorium. The evening showcased a vibrant blend of classical depth, folk sweetness, and Western musical elements, creating a rich and immersive experience for the audience. The event was dedicated to the legendary tabla maestros Ustad Alla Rakha and Zakir Hussain.

The programme commenced with a performance by the 11-member Raag Yatra International Fusion Band under the direction of Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim. The ensemble presented compositions based on Raag Mishra Kirwani, Darbari Kanada, and Pahadi, set to rhythmic cycles such as Ektal, Teental, Keherwa, and Dadra. The performance featured intricate elements of alaap, elaboration, khayal, and taans, along with engaging jugalbandi (duet interplay) and question-answer sequences between instruments, keeping the audience enthralled throughout.

Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim displayed remarkable versatility by performing on multiple instruments including tabla, chanda, madal, electronic percussion, topstick, ghungroo, and thunder drum. He was accompanied by a talented group of musicians: Arun Mishra on dholak, djembe, hudka, and maracas; Siraj Ahmad on ramkundali, flute, hudka, dhol, daf, and maracas; and Kamal Gupta, Prakhar Pratap Singh, Alka Srivastava, Saurabh Sonwani, Harshal Kumarase, Samrat Rajkumar, Nayan Singh, and Anjali Patel on various instruments.

The second segment featured young artists Divyanshi Raj and Vidyut Ganguly, who delivered impressive solo tabla performances based on Teental. Their presentation included complex compositions such as kayda, tukda, and chakradhar, demonstrating technical precision and rhythmic mastery. Child artist Anuj Mahendru also received appreciation for his soulful rendition of ghazals like “Log Kehte Hain” and “Niyat-e-Saukh.”

The third segment celebrated folk traditions, with performances by Nalini Tripathi, Mudita Pandey, and Anshika. They presented traditional songs such as Godna Geet and Chakkiya Geet, including “Peesna Peesan Lagi,” with emotional depth and authenticity. Instrumental support in this segment was provided by Prakhar Pratap Singh, Dilip Trivedi, Anupama Rai, Zeeshan Abbas, Pinky Srivastava, and Ansh.

The event was skillfully anchored by Rajendra Vishwakarma, ensuring a seamless flow of performances. Overall, the evening stood out as a memorable tribute to musical diversity and artistic excellence, celebrating the harmonious blend of traditions and modernity.
