‘From Gangotri to Ganga Sagar, Lotus Blooms’: PM Modi Reflects on Ganga Connect in Victory Speech
New Delhi, May 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday invoked his long-standing spiritual and political association with the Ganga River while addressing party leaders and workers during a victory speech at the BJP headquarters in the national capital.
Amid celebrations over the party’s strong electoral performance, Modi reflected on what he described as a symbolic and political alignment unfolding across states connected by the Ganga. Highlighting the BJP’s growing footprint, he said it was a matter of pride that the party’s symbol, the lotus, is now “blooming” across the entire stretch of the river—from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar.
Recalling his remarks following the Bihar election results, the Prime Minister said his earlier prediction about political change in eastern India was now becoming a reality. “I had said that the Ganga flows from Bihar to Bengal and merges into the sea at Ganga Sagar. Today, the NDA is in power across all these regions,” he noted.
He pointed out that the BJP and its allies now govern key states along the river’s course, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal, drawing applause from the gathering.
Modi also revisited a personal moment from 2013, when he filed his nomination from Varanasi ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Sharing the memory, he reiterated his famous remark: “No one called me, no one sent me—Maa Ganga called me.” He said that sentiment continues to resonate with him even today.
According to the Prime Minister, the current political developments reinforce his belief in a deeper connection with the river, which he described as a source of inspiration and blessing for both him and the party.
Beyond symbolism, Modi attributed the BJP’s electoral success to its governance model and commitment to public service. He emphasised that the party’s consistent victories in recent Assembly elections reflect growing public trust. “People are blessing us because they can see our dedication to development and delivery,” he said.
The Prime Minister underscored that the BJP’s rise across multiple states is rooted in its focus on inclusive growth and responsiveness to citizens’ needs. He added that the party would continue to build on this momentum, guided by its principles of good governance.
The speech blended political messaging with personal reflection, as Modi sought to connect the party’s electoral achievements with a broader narrative of cultural and spiritual continuity anchored around the Ganga.
