Guwahati Planetarium Organises 06 Days Astronomy Fest From May 14th.
Guwahati; May 2026: The Guwahati Planetarium will organise a 06 day “Astronomy Festival” from May 14th to 19th in collaboration with the Astronomical Society of India (ASI), bringing together some of the country’s leading scientists, astronomers and space researchers for a series of public outreach and educational programmes. The event will include hands-on training workshops for teachers and students, popular lectures, interactive sessions and telescopic sky observation programmes.
The festival, which is to be held under the State Science and Technology Department, will feature scientists and experts from premier scientific institutions including the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Director of Guwahati Planetarium, Rituparna Thakuria, said the initiative is aimed at making astronomy more accessible and engaging for students and science enthusiasts in the region. “The Astronomy Festival has been designed to create scientific curiosity among students and to popularise astronomy and space science through direct interaction with eminent scientists and astronomers of the country. Such programmes are important for inspiring the younger generation towards scientific learning and innovation”, she said, while further asserting that, “the festival would provide a unique opportunity for students and teachers of the Northeast to interact with experts from some of India’s top scientific organisations and gain practical exposure through workshops and observation sessions”.
The event will include hands-on training workshops for teachers and students, popular lectures, interactive sessions and telescopic sky observation programmes aimed at promoting interest in astronomy and space science among young learners and the general public. Participants will also be given free access to planetarium shows and the Astronomy Gallery during the festival. According to the organisers, the festival seeks to educate, engage and inspire people, particularly children and students, towards the field of astronomy and emerging developments in space science. The Astronomical Society of India, which is collaborating in the event, is one of the country’s premier professional bodies of astronomers and astrophysicists.
