Bihar Honours Ishan Kishan with Rs 1 Crore Reward for T20 World Cup Heroics
Patna, May 2026 : The Bihar government on Friday honoured Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan with a cash reward of Rs 1 crore in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Team India’s victorious campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, who hails from Patna, was felicitated by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary during a special ceremony held in the state capital.

Taking a short break from his ongoing IPL commitments, Ishan arrived in Patna and met the Chief Minister, who praised the cricketer for bringing pride and recognition to Bihar through his performances on the international stage. Members of Kishan’s family were also present during the felicitation event, making the occasion emotional and memorable for the young star.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described Ishan Kishan as the “Son of Bihar” and lauded his dedication, hard work and consistency in world cricket. Congratulating him on his success, the Chief Minister said the entire state was proud of his achievements and hoped he would continue to shine for India in the years ahead.
“Ishan Kishan has become an inspiration for the youth of Bihar. His contribution to India’s T20 World Cup triumph has made every citizen of the state proud. We wish him a long and successful cricketing career,” the Chief Minister said while presenting the reward cheque.
Ishan Kishan played a key role in India’s successful World Cup campaign and emerged as one of the standout performers of the tournament. In nine matches, he scored 317 runs at an impressive strike rate of 193 and an average of 35.22, finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the competition.
One of his most memorable innings came against arch-rivals Pakistan, where he smashed a brilliant 77-run knock under pressure and helped India secure a crucial victory. His aggressive batting and fearless approach throughout the tournament made him one of India’s most dependable match-winners.
In the final against New Zealand, Kishan once again rose to the occasion with a match-defining innings of 54 runs. His knock, which included four boundaries and four sixes, played a crucial role in helping India post a massive total of 250 runs. India eventually went on to win the final and lift the coveted trophy.
Ishan Kishan’s cricketing journey has been marked by perseverance and determination. Born in Patna, he initially faced challenges due to administrative issues related to the Bihar Cricket Association. To pursue professional cricket seriously, he shifted to Jharkhand, where he continued his development as a cricketer.
He first gained national attention when he captained India’s Under-19 team during the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup. His fearless batting style and leadership qualities soon made him one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket.
Kishan’s domestic career has also featured several remarkable performances, including his famous 273-run innings in the Ranji Trophy, which established him as a powerful middle-order batter. His consistent displays in domestic cricket earned him opportunities in the Indian Premier League, where he became a star performer with multiple impactful seasons for his franchise.
He made his international debut for India in 2021 against England and impressed immediately by scoring a half-century and winning the Player of the Match award. Although he faced setbacks during 2023, including the loss of his BCCI central contract, Kishan worked hard on his comeback and returned strongly during the 2025-26 domestic season.
His resurgence ultimately earned him a place in India’s T20 World Cup squad, where he proved his value on the biggest stage and played a vital role in the country’s title-winning campaign.
