Battery-Operated Waste Collection Vehicles to Run Across District

Revenue and Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule Flags Off Initiative at Zilla Parishad

Amravati, May 2026: Battery-operated waste collection vehicles will now operate across the district to strengthen rural sanitation and solid waste management systems. Under the Amravati Zilla Parishad and through funds from the 15th Finance Commission, battery-operated e-rickshaws will be distributed to 26 gram panchayats in the district for solid waste management activities.

The initiative was formally launched today at the Zilla Parishad headquarters, where Revenue and Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule flagged off the vehicles.

The event was attended by MLAs Pravin Tayade, Pratap Adsad, Sanjay Khodke, Rajesh Wankhade, Kevalram Kale, Umesh alias Chandu Yawalkar, Ravi Rana, Mayor Shrichand Tejwani, Divisional Commissioner Nayana Gunde, District Collector Ashish Yerekar, Chief Executive Officer Satyam Gandhi, and Municipal Commissioner Varsha Ladda.

These battery-operated vehicles are expected to accelerate door-to-door garbage collection, waste segregation, and scientific disposal processes. Officials said the initiative would not only improve rural cleanliness but also contribute significantly to environmental conservation.

Compared to conventional diesel-powered vehicles, the new e-rickshaws are environment-friendly and will help reduce fuel expenses. The vehicles have been provided with administrative approval from the Panchayat Department to ensure that waste collection and management are carried out in a more efficient, organised, and sustainable manner.

Each vehicle has been procured at a cost of Rs 3 lakh, and a total fund allocation of Rs 78 lakh has been made available under the 15th Finance Commission for the project.

The vehicles will soon be handed over to the respective gram panchayats, giving fresh momentum to the Swachh Bharat Mission campaign in rural areas.
