Union Minister of State Dr. L. Murugan Arrives in Mizoram, Holds Discussions with State Ministers Before Visiting Kolasib
Aizawl, June 2026 : L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, arrived in Mizoram on Tuesday for a two-day visit to the state.
The Union Minister was received at Lengpui Airport by Mizoram’s Information, Public Relations, Printing & Stationery Minister B. Lalchhanzova, Information & Communication Technology Minister Vanlalthlana, and other senior government officials.
Immediately after his arrival, a meeting was held at the airport during which Minister B. Lalchhanzova submitted several key proposals aimed at strengthening Mizoram’s media, film, and digital infrastructure sectors.
Among the proposals was the establishment of Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) Content Creator Labs in 200 schools and 20 colleges across Mizoram. The initiative is expected to encourage digital content creation, innovation, and entrepreneurship among the state’s youth.
The state government also sought support for training and skill development programmes for Mizo filmmakers through premier national institutions such as the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Film and Television Institute of India.
Another key proposal related to strengthening the annual Lemchan Film Festival, which was held for the first time earlier this year. The state requested continued support for the festival and suggested extending it to a five-day event to promote local talent, showcase creative works, and foster greater collaboration within the film industry.
The minister also proposed the creation of a dedicated scheme for improving and developing cinema theatre infrastructure across the Northeastern states. The initiative is expected to support local-language films, preserve indigenous culture and traditions, and create employment opportunities.
In addition, the state government requested financial support from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting through the 10 per cent Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) earmarked for Northeastern states to fund various state-led media and development projects.
Support was also sought to enable Mizo filmmakers to participate in major national and international film festivals through institutional assistance and exposure programmes.
Responding to the proposals, Dr. Murugan assured the state government that efforts would be made to address the issues raised. He also expressed his interest in attending future editions of the Lemchan Film Festival.
According to his official itinerary, the Union Minister proceeded to Kolasib after the meeting, where he is scheduled to hold interactions and review meetings with the District Deputy Commissioner and other officials. He will stay overnight at the Kolasib Circuit House and is expected to visit various project sites in the district on Wednesday morning.
