Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Visits ICAR and Various Educational Institutions in Kolasib

Kolasib, June 2026: Shri Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, who is currently on a visit to Kolasib, toured several government initiatives and educational institutions in the district this morning. He was accompanied by Shri H. Dolianbuaia, Deputy Commissioner, Shri Lalrinpuia Varte, Superintendent of Police, Shri Vanlalchhana, District Education Officer and Smt C. Lalremruati, District Child Protection Officer.

The Union Minister first visited the Regional Sports Training Centre (RSTC), Saidan, where trainees presented a football exhibition match. Discussions were also held on measures required for the further development and strengthening of the centre.

He then visited PM Government Model Primary School-I, Kolasib, a PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) institution. During an interaction with students, he spoke about India’s preparations to become a fully developed nation by 2047 and emphasized that students would play a crucial role in achieving that national vision.

At Diakkawn High School, Kolasib, NCC cadets welcomed the Minister with a parade, while students showcased Mizo cultural performances. He was also shown practical demonstrations of vocational courses being taught to students under the framework of the New Education Policy (NEP). The Minister later interacted with teachers and students.

The Minister also visited Audrene Scism Children’s Home at Khuangpuilam, where staff briefed him on the welfare and care being provided to resident children. He subsequently visited the Anganwadi Centre at Kolasib Vengthar, which operates under the Thingdawl ICDS Project. There, he interacted with workers, children, and parents present at the centre.

Before concluding his visit to Kolasib, Shri Dr. L. Murugan launched the “Khed Bachao Abhiyan” initiative of ICAR, Kolasib. The campaign focuses on promoting chemical fertilizer-free cultivation, providing farmers with practical and advanced agricultural knowledge, and educating them on maintaining healthy soil for farming and land development.

The Union Minister also held an interaction at the ICAR Conference Hall with officials of ICAR and KVK Kolasib, as well as local farmers. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the importance of producing healthy agricultural crops and highlighted the need to continually equip farmers with the latest technologies and agricultural innovations to improve both productivity and quality.

During the programme, he also released a publication prepared by ICAR experts titled “Weather-Based Agro-Advisories for Climate-Resilient Farming in Mizoram: A Compilation of Success Stories.”
