Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez Arrives in India for Five-Day Visit to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

New Delhi, June 3: Venezuela’s Acting President, Delcy Rodriguez, arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a five-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors, including energy, trade, investment, healthcare, technology, and renewable energy.

Welcoming the Venezuelan leader, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit reflects the growing momentum in India-Venezuela relations and is expected to deepen engagement between the two countries across multiple strategic and economic sectors.

During her stay, Rodriguez is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussions are expected to cover the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations, with particular emphasis on energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, digital innovation, and renewable energy cooperation.

In a message posted on social media, Jaiswal extended a warm welcome to the visiting leader and expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen the longstanding partnership between the two nations.

Rodriguez is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Venezuela’s ministers responsible for foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication and information, and transportation. The delegation’s visit is expected to facilitate discussions on new areas of collaboration and investment opportunities.

As part of the visit, the Venezuelan delegation will tour several industrial and technological facilities associated with India’s energy, pharmaceutical, and automobile sectors. The visits are intended to showcase India’s technological capabilities and explore avenues for industrial cooperation and knowledge exchange.

This marks Rodriguez’s sixth visit to India. She previously travelled to the country as Venezuela’s Foreign Minister in 2015 and later as Vice President in 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Her repeated engagements underline the importance both countries attach to maintaining close diplomatic and economic relations.

The MEA noted that India and Venezuela share warm and friendly ties built on cooperation in the energy sector, expanding trade relations, and a common commitment to the interests of the Global South. Indian public sector enterprises have made significant investments in Venezuela’s energy sector and continue to explore opportunities for expanding their presence in the South American nation.

The visit comes at a time when energy cooperation between the two countries is gaining renewed importance. India has emerged as one of the largest importers of Venezuelan crude oil, further highlighting the strategic value of the relationship.

Officials from both sides expect the visit to provide fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation and open new avenues for partnership across diverse sectors in the years ahead.
