Youth Should Draw Inspiration from Glorious Legacy of Hindi Journalism: Governor Shri Patel

Bhopal, June 2026 :Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel said that the early phase of Hindi journalism was marked by immense challenges. Despite numerous hardships imposed by British rule, dedicated journalists upheld the ideals, ethics, and integrity of journalism. He said that the younger generation should draw inspiration from this glorious tradition of Hindi journalism.

Governor Shri Patel was addressing the programme ‘Hindi Journalism Bicentenary Festival – Purkhon Ko Pranam: Poster Exhibition’ on Wednesday. The exhibition has been organised by the Madhavrao Sapre Memorial Newspaper Museum and Research Institute. The Governor congratulated the institute for its exemplary initiative of remembering and honouring great pioneers. Principal Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Navneet Mohan Kothari, was also present.

Governor Shri Patel said that the poster exhibition showcasing historic Hindi newspapers, magazines, and visionary editors is an inspiring effort to connect the younger generation with the rich legacy of journalism. The exhibition vividly brings to life the sacrifices and dedication of those pioneering editors who devoted themselves to nation-building and public service, inspiring visitors with deep respect for their commitment and ideals. He said that journalism is not merely a profession; it represents responsibility towards society, commitment to truth and dedication to the nation. The Governor noted that Hindi journalism, from its very inception, has gone beyond the role of disseminating news by guiding society, strengthening public opinion, and awakening national consciousness. During the freedom movement, Hindi journalism played a significant role in public awareness, social reform, and national unity. Its contribution extended beyond the freedom struggle, helping create a vast readership and spreading knowledge among the masses.

Hindi Journalism Must Connect with Youth through Digital Platforms

Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel said that Hindi journalism continues to play an important role in strengthening the roots of democracy, promoting civic awareness, and contributing to nation-building. In the age of science and technology, it is essential to connect Hindi journalism with the younger generation through videos, podcasts, websites and mobile platforms. He called upon journalists to inspire young people with the values of credibility, truthfulness and impartiality. The Governor also urged them to promote innovation, skill development, social responsibility and sensitivity towards social concerns and marginalized sections of society through their writings.

Governor Expresses Gratitude for Release of His Biography

During the programme, a book based on the life of Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel, titled ‘Peer Parai Jaane Re’, was released. The book has been authored by Smt. Shilpi Diwakar, Controller at Lok Bhavan, and published by the Madhavrao Sapre Museum. Governor Shri Patel expressed his gratitude to all those associated with the writing and publication of the biography.

Journalism has Ancient Legacy: Mayor Smt. Rai

Mayor Smt. Malti Rai said that the history of journalism in India is extremely ancient and can be traced back to the country’s rich knowledge traditions. She appreciated Governor Shri Patel’s active role, cooperation, and sensitivity in public welfare initiatives.

Senior journalist and Editor Shri Mahesh Shrivastava shared his views on the changing nature of journalism and the challenges posed by increasing commercialisation.

Principal Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Navneet Mohan Kothari, said that India possesses a rich journalistic culture whose roots can be traced from ancient scriptures to modern developments. He remarked that Sanjay from the Mahabharata could be regarded as a pioneer of live reporting, as he provided Dhritarashtra with a direct narration of the war. Similarly, Sage Narada facilitated the exchange of information for public welfare, a tradition that journalists continue to carry forward today.

Founder of the Madhavrao Sapre Memorial Newspaper Museum and Research Institute, Shri Vijaydutt Shridhar, welcomed Governor Shri Patel by presenting a bouquet and memento. The Governor was also presented with a special commemorative publication released by Hindi Bhavan to mark 200 years of journalism.

The welcome address was delivered by Shri Vijaydutt Shridhar, while Dr. Mangala proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was attended by officials of Lok Bhavan, retired Additional Director of the Public Relations Department Shri Suresh Gupta, scholars associated with Hindi journalism, journalists, and literature enthusiasts.
