Serena and Venus Williams reunite at Wimbledon 2026 after receiving doubles wildcard
London, June 2026 : One of the most iconic partnerships in tennis history is set to return to the grand stage of Wimbledon after sisters Serena Williams and Venus Williams were awarded a wildcard entry for the women’s doubles competition at Wimbledon 2026.
The announcement marks a highly anticipated reunion of the legendary duo at the All England Club, where they built one of the greatest doubles legacies in the sport. The Championships begin on June 29, and the sisters’ return is expected to be one of the biggest attractions of this year’s tournament.
The wildcard grants Serena and Venus direct entry into the doubles main draw. However, neither player has been included among the initial recipients of women’s singles wildcards. Tournament organisers still have one singles wildcard left to allocate, leaving open the possibility that either sister could yet feature in the singles competition.
Over the years, the Williams sisters have enjoyed extraordinary success on Wimbledon’s grass courts. Together, they captured the women’s doubles title six times and maintained a remarkable unbeaten record in Grand Slam doubles finals. Across all major tournaments, the pair have claimed 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, cementing their place among the greatest partnerships in tennis history.
Their achievements at the All England Club extend beyond Grand Slam success. In 2012, the sisters won Olympic women’s doubles gold at Wimbledon, adding to the Olympic titles they secured at the Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008 Games.
For Serena, this year’s Wimbledon carries special significance as she continues an unexpected comeback to professional tennis. The 44-year-old had not competed in a Grand Slam event since the 2022 US Open, which many believed would be the final tournament of her illustrious career.
Earlier this month, Serena made her return to competitive action at Queen’s Club, partnering Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko in the doubles event. The pair won their opening match before Mboko was forced to withdraw due to injury, ending what had been an encouraging comeback.
Serena has since continued her preparations at the Berlin Tennis Open, where she is competing in doubles alongside Czech star Karolína Muchová ahead of Wimbledon.
Meanwhile, 45-year-old Venus will be looking to rediscover her best form after a challenging singles season. The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion is yet to register a singles victory in 2026, having lost all seven of her matches so far this year.
However, Venus enjoyed success earlier in doubles competition when she teamed up with British player Katie Boulter to secure a victory at the Madrid Open.
Wimbledon’s latest wildcard list also featured several notable names. Former Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka received a wildcard for the men’s singles draw as he prepares for what is expected to be the final season of his professional career. Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov was also granted entry.
On the women’s side, French Open runner-up Maja Chwalińska earned a wildcard following her breakthrough performance at Roland Garros.
While Wimbledon 2026 promises numerous compelling storylines, few can match the emotional appeal of seeing Serena and Venus Williams share the court once again. More than two decades after they transformed women’s doubles, the sisters are set to add another memorable chapter to one of tennis’ greatest partnerships.
