Unnao becomes part of the State Capital Region; proposal being prepared for a rapid rail link from Lucknow to Kanpur via Unnao: CM
Unnao, June 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “The work done by the double-engine government in the last 12 years at the Centre and nine years in Uttar Pradesh could not be achieved by the Congress and Samajwadi Party governments because they were corrupt and lacked capability. These parties thought only about their families and not about the poor.”
He said, “Congress never thought beyond the Nehru-Gandhi family, while for the SP only Saifai was its family. In contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi considers India his home and 140 crore Indians his family.”
The Chief Minister added that Uttar Pradesh is his home and its 25 crore people are members of his family, and working for their prosperity is his mission.
The Chief Minister was addressing a public gathering after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for 101 development projects worth more than ₹570 crore. During the programme held at Gram Panchayat Deeh, Bhawani Khera Chauraha, Hindu Khera in Unnao, he visited an exhibition and performed the annaprashan ceremony for children.
He also informed people that the capacity of the Police Training School built in memory of martyr Veer Gulab Singh Lodhi has been doubled.
The Chief Minister said, “During the SP government, whenever the poor or opposition parties raised their voice, goons and mafias suppressed them and created lawlessness by kidnapping traders. The terror of Khar-Dushan, Marich and Subahu during the Ramayana era must have been similar to the terror created by SP-backed mafias.”
He added that Congress and SP leaders are never seen shedding tears for the poor, but they do so when mafias die. According to him, despite ruling for long periods, both parties are responsible for pushing the country and the state into decline.
The Chief Minister described Unnao as a land of spirituality, literature and revolution. He paid tribute to local spiritual centres, literary figures and freedom fighters. He also remembered the contributions of former Assembly Speaker Hriday Narayan Dikshit. He said, “When India’s identity was under threat during British rule, freedom fighters Raja Rambaksh Singh and Veer Gulab Singh Lodhi made supreme sacrifices and weakened the foundations of British rule.”
CM Yogi said, “Swami Sakshi Maharaj used to say that Unnao felt neglected, situated as it is between Lucknow and Kanpur. At that time, I assured him that every development scheme would reach Unnao as well. Today, Unnao enjoys four-lane connectivity in all directions. Via the Ganga Expressway, residents of Unnao can travel directly to Delhi and Prayagraj, bypassing Lucknow. A greenfield expressway to Kanpur is also under construction. The demand for an additional bridge over the Ganga River to enhance connectivity between Unnao and Kanpur has also been met.”
He stated, “We will not let Unnao lag behind. Land acquisition has been completed for the Defence Manufacturing Corridor and for developing industrial clusters along the Ganga Expressway. Approximately 700 acres of land for the Defence Corridor and around 200 acres for industrial clusters are ready in the Unnao district. The establishment of industries will provide employment opportunities to local youth right here.”
The Chief Minister added, “While the world is facing challenges such as energy crises, economic slowdown and instability in West Asia, India under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has provided relief to its people and successfully managed these challenges.”
CM Yogi also informed, India’s governance has become an example for the world. While countries like the United States are struggling with inflation, India has effectively handled these difficulties. He added that India is strengthening security, respecting faith and boosting the economy, while terrorists, extremists and Naxalites are being answered in their own language.
The Chief Minister stated, “The Prime Minister focuses on four specific groups: the poor, farmers, women, and the youth. Schemes are being formulated with these groups at the core. Under ‘Mission Shakti,’ programs dedicated to the safety, dignity, and self-reliance of women are being implemented. Regarding the Pradhan Mantri-Chief Minister Awas Yojana, the poor no longer have to plead for assistance; instead, officials visit their homes to inform them of their selection. Previously, one could not access the benefits of such schemes even by paying a bribe, whereas today, facilities like LPG connections, rations, pensions, and Ayushman coverage are available without the need for any recommendations or influence.”
The Chief Minister said, “Opposition’s double standards are laughable. Parties that brought a crisis of identity to the state and were associated with mafia rule, riots and curfews are now giving lectures. If they possess even a shred of shame, they should reflect on their own tenures. The youth of UP will not accept these corrupt parties that played with their employment, jobs, and self-respect. Since 2014, the youth have been giving these parties a reply for the humiliation they faced.”
The Chief Minister continues by saying, “Earlier farmers neither received proper prices for their crops nor adequate electricity. Tube wells were stolen and farmers were forced into distress. Sugarcane prices, seeds and fertilisers were not provided on time. Therefore, farmers will also not support such parties.”
Referring to women’s safety, he said that women know how to deal with forces that threaten their dignity. He added that New India and New Uttar Pradesh do not forgive those who play with people’s honour and self-respect.
The Chief Minister said, “Uttar Pradesh is blessed by Lord Ram, Banke Bihari, Baba Vishwanath and Maa Ganga, and therefore there is no shortage of resources. Disturbances have ended and festivals now bring happiness even to poor families, who can celebrate with dignity and enthusiasm.”
The Chief Minister stated, “Unnao has also become part of the State Capital Region (SCR). The immortal hero Veer Gulab Singh Lodhi once journeyed from Unnao to Hazratganj, Lucknow, to fight for the nation’s freedom; now, development will extend from Lucknow through Unnao to Kanpur.”
He informed the gathering that India’s first rapid rail service is operating between Delhi and Meerut, and a similar proposal is being prepared for a rapid rail corridor from Lucknow to Kanpur via Unnao. Ring roads will be developed around the region, connecting Lucknow, Hardoi, Unnao, Sitapur, Barabanki and Raebareli. He stated all districts will participate equally in the development process.
The Chief Minister further informed, “Uttar Pradesh has energetic youth, hardworking farmers, the strength of women and the blessings of Maa Ganga. Industrial clusters are being developed across districts and preparations are underway to create world-class infrastructure. The government is working with a 100-year vision plan.”
The Chief Minister said, “Anyone travelling on the Ganga Expressway, the country’s largest expressway, would understand how global standards are implemented. The riding quality of this expressway rivals that of the best roads in the world. We invited the Prime Minister to inaugurate this expressway at a location between Unnao and Hardoi. UP is at the forefront of expressway and airport connectivity.”
Among those present on the occasion were MP Sakshi Maharaj, Minister of State for Higher Education Rajni Tiwari, MLAs Pankaj Gupta, Anil Singh, Ashutosh Shukla, Bambalal Diwakar, Shrikant Katiyar, Brajesh Rawat, Legislative Council member Ramchandra Pradhan, District Panchayat Chairperson Shakun Singh and BJP district president Anurag Awasthi, among others.
