New Delhi, July 2026 : Shri Om Prakash Vyas assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). After taking charge, he paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta. During the meeting, they held detailed discussions on a range of issues related to the protection of children’s rights, their safety and their overall development.

Congratulating Shri Vyas on his new responsibility, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that protecting children’s rights and safeguarding their welfare remains the Delhi Government’s highest priority. She expressed confidence that under its new leadership, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights will work with sensitivity, transparency and accountability, and play an important role in ensuring a safe, dignified and trustworthy environment for children across the Capital.

The Chief Minister said that the Delhi Government is not only formulating policies for child safety but is also continuously working to ensure their effective implementation on the ground. As part of the recently launched Child Protection Month, all concerned departments have been directed to ensure the effective implementation of the POCSO Act, constitute Child Protection Committees in schools, conduct large-scale awareness campaigns and further strengthen child safety mechanisms across institutions. She said the Commission would play a key role in making these efforts even more effective.

After assuming office, DCPCR Chairperson Om Prakash Vyas said that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has a clear and sensitive vision for protecting children’s rights, ensuring their welfare and promoting their holistic development. He said this vision would serve as the guiding force for the Commission’s work, and that it would carry out its responsibilities with complete commitment in line with that vision. He added that all members of the Commission are committed to working round the clock to protect children’s rights, secure their future and support their overall development.

He said that as the national capital, the child protection model being developed in Delhi can serve as an inspiration for the rest of the country. He expressed confidence that the efforts being made under the leadership of the Chief Minister for the welfare of children would resonate across the country and establish Delhi as a strong example in the field of child protection. He further said that the Commission would actively work towards ensuring the effective implementation of the POCSO Act and all statutory provisions relating to children’s rights, taking prompt cognisance of matters concerning child safety, spreading greater public awareness, and building a robust child protection system through close coordination with the Education Department, the Department of Women and Child Development, Delhi Police and other concerned institutions.

Shri Vyas said that ensuring a safe school environment, strengthening the functioning of Child Protection Committees, and promoting awareness among children about safe and unsafe touch, cyber safety, gender sensitisation and personal safety would remain among the Commission’s key priorities. He added that sustained efforts would also be made, in coordination with Anganwadi centres, Child Care Institutions and other related institutions, to ensure the effective protection of children’s rights. The Commission, he said, will strive to create a safe, sensitive and supportive environment where every child can grow with dignity and achieve holistic development.
