77th Republic Day Celebrated with Grandeur in Lunglei
Lunglei, January 2026: The 77th Republic Day of India was celebrated with patriotic fervour and grandeur at C. Ṭhuamluaia Mual, Lunglei, today. The programme was graced by the District Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei, Pi Navneet Mann, IAS, as the Chief Guest.
The celebration commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag at 9:30 a.m. by the Chief Guest, followed by the National Salute and inspection of the ceremonial parade. A total of 22 parade contingents, comprising 5 armed, 6 unarmed, 9 school contingents and 2 pipe bands, participated in the parade. Pu Alex Hmingthanmawia, MPS (SDPO Tlabung) served as Parade Commander, assisted by Pu ZD Lalremruata, Sub-Inspector, Lunglei DEF, as Second Parade Commander.

In her Republic Day address, the Chief Guest highlighted the significance of the Indian Constitution in upholding justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, and emphasised inclusive development, good governance and collective responsibility in nation building. She appreciated the cooperation of government departments, civil society organisations, media and citizens, and called for sustained efforts towards a developed Lunglei district in line with the vision of Viksit Mizoram and Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The Chief Guest briefly outlined key achievements of Lunglei district during 2025–26, including progress in drinking water supply projects under AMRUT 2.0 and SASCI, road and infrastructure development by PWD, livelihood support to farmers and artisans, employment generation under MGNREGS, social security and compensation measures, improved health indicators, sanitation achievements, and recognition received by the district at the state and national levels. She mentioned that District Level Initiatives undertaken by the Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei—namely Project BLOOM and the Healthy Lunglei Initiative—were selected as NITI Aayog Best Practices 2025, recognising Lunglei’s innovative and people-centric governance. She further stated that Lunglei District received the National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) 2025 from the Hon’ble President of India in December 2025, in recognition of the district’s flagship inclusion initiative, Project LEAP.

After the speech, the Chief Guest handed prizes of ceremonial parade, awards and trophies to respective recipents as below:
1. Parade Awards

Second – NCC, Lunglei Government College
Third – NCC, Sacred Heart School, Lunglei
(2) School Contingent:
First – 2nd Bn MAP English Medium School, Luangmual
Second – Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pukpui
Third – Sacred Heart School, Lunglei
Participation prizes were also awarded to armed contingents, remaining parade contingents and band parties.
2. Other Awards and Recognitions
Under Project BLOOM 2025, awards were presented to outstanding Anganwadi Centres and Health Facilities for exemplary performance in maternal and child health:
(1) Anganwadi Centres (AWCs):
First – Tuisenchhuah Cluster (Bolia 1 AWC, Bolia 2 AWC & Tuisenchhuah AWC)
Second – Belthei Cluster (Belthei 1 AWC & Belthei 2 AWC)
(2) Health Facilities:
First – Phairuangkai Health & Wellness Centre – (82.8%)
Second – Zawlpui Health & Wellness Centre (82%)
Winners of Republic Day sports events, including Judo Championship and Tennis Tournament 2026, were also felicitated during the programme.
The programme was attended by Pu Lalramliana Papuia, MLA (Lunglei South); Pu J. Lalmuankima, Superintendent of Police, Lunglei; Pu Lalzuithanga, Chairman, Lunglei Municipal Council, along with councillors, district officials, ex-servicemen, representatives of civil society organisations, churches and political parties, students, media personnel and a large number of citizens.
Following the main function, a “VIP’s at Home” reception was hosted at the DC Bungalow. As part of the Republic Day outreach activities, the District Republic Day Celebration Committee distributed token gifts amounting to ₹18,000 to various charitable institutions, namely Bethel Centre (Chhumliamkawn, Sazaikawn), Baptist Church Orphanage (Ramzotlang, Serkawn), Chhawmdawlna In (Melte, Serkawn), Lunglei Home TNT (Theiriat), Civil Hospital Lunglei and District Jail Lunglei.
The celebration concluded on a note of unity, patriotism and collective commitment towards the continued development of Lunglei district and the nation.
