Rajasthan Tableau Becomes Center of Attraction on Rajpath
Jaipur, January 2026 : On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day celebrations, Rajasthan’s tableau emerged as the center of attraction in the parade held on Rajpath, New Delhi, on Monday. Centered around Bikaner’s world-renowned Usta art, the tableau captivated viewers with its distinctive craftsmanship, cultural grandeur, and vibrant presentation.
At the front of the tableau, a 180-degree rotating statue of a musician playing Rajasthan’s famous folk instrument, the Ravan Hatta, was displayed. On either side, surahi (pots), kuppi, and lamps adorned with Usta art were placed in attractive frames. This part of the tableau stands approximately 13 feet tall.
In the trailer section, rotating traditional kuppis adorned with Usta art and scenes of artisans working on handicrafts were showcased, reflecting the living tradition of this art form. On the rear portion of the tableau, a giant camel and rider statue symbolized Rajasthan’s desert culture and folk life. On both sides, arches decorated with Usta art featuring exquisite leaf-like gold craftsmanship were also displayed.
Around the tableau, performers presenting Gair folk dance further highlighted Rajasthan’s cultural identity. Overall, the tableau presented a vivid confluence of traditional art, folk culture, and royal heritage.
It is noteworthy that Usta art is a traditional royal craft of gold inlay on camel hide, believed to have originated in Iran. It developed during the Mughal era and reached Bikaner during the reign of Maharaja Rai Singh, where local artisans gave it a distinctive identity. The art uses 24-carat gold leaf and natural colors. Today, Usta art has expanded to wood, marble, glass, and walls. Bikaner’s Usta art has also received Geographical Indication (GI) Tag, confirming its originality and cultural significance.
