Maharashtra Launches the Country’s First ‘Menopause Clinics’ – Minister of State for Health Meghna Sakore-Bordikar

A National Model in Women’s Healthcare

Mumbai, January 2026 : Under a visionary initiative that prioritises women’s health, Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to launch dedicated Menopause Clinics. These specialised clinics have been started in government hospitals and urban health centres across the state. Implemented under the guidance of Minister of State for Public Health Meghna Bordikar, the initiative has received an enthusiastic response from women statewide.

Menopause is a natural yet sensitive phase in a woman’s life, during which significant physical, emotional, and hormonal changes occur. Issues such as hormonal imbalance, bone disorders, sleep disturbances, increased risk of heart disease, and mental health concerns are common during this period. Recognising these challenges, the state government has taken an important step by institutionalising menopause-focused healthcare services within the public health system.

These Menopause Clinics provide comprehensive healthcare services for women under one roof. The services include expert medical consultation, mental health counselling, screening and assessment of hormonal, bone, and cardiac health, necessary treatment, medicines, as well as guidance on lifestyle management.

Women who have benefited from these services have expressed satisfaction and gratitude, describing the initiative as essential, dignified, and empowering for women during this phase of life.

Notably, Maharashtra has become the first state in India to launch a structured, statewide menopause care programme, setting a national benchmark for other states to follow. The initiative was launched around the time of Makar Sankranti, making it a meaningful and health-focused gift for women.

Women from various parts of the state have welcomed the programme, viewing it as a strong example of the government’s sensitivity towards women’s health issues and its commitment to inclusive public healthcare.

“Menopause is not a disease but a natural phase in a woman’s life. The Menopause Clinics have been started to ensure that every woman in Maharashtra receives respectful, appropriate medical guidance and treatment during this stage. When women’s health is strengthened, families, society, and the state become stronger,” said Minister of State Meghna Bordikar.

This initiative reflects a clear and progressive public health vision and is being widely appreciated as a transformative step towards women-centric healthcare in India.
