PM Modi Highlights ‘Reform Express’ and Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision at Budget Session Launch

New Delhi, Jan 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underscored that the commencement of the Budget Session of Parliament represents a crucial step in India’s journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047, asserting that the government is steadfastly focused on accelerating reforms and implementing long-term solutions for longstanding challenges.

Addressing mediapersons at the start of the session, PM Modi referred to President Droupadi Murmu’s address, stating, “The President’s address yesterday reflected the confidence of 140 crore Indians and their aspirations. She also expressed her expectations from parliamentarians in very simple words, sharing her feelings as the head of the nation. I am confident that all MPs will take these seriously.”

Highlighting that nearly a quarter of the 21st century has already passed, he emphasised that India is now embarking on a critical 25-year journey to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. This phase, he noted, will shape India’s future trajectory and define its role on the global stage.

Paying tribute to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, PM Modi highlighted her historic achievement: “She is the first Finance Minister of the country to present the Budget in Parliament for the ninth consecutive time. This itself is being recorded in India’s parliamentary history as a proud moment.”

The Prime Minister observed that during this formative period of the century, India has emerged as a “beacon of hope” and a “centre of attraction” for the world, reflecting the growing confidence in India’s economic strength, democratic stability, and global relevance.

He specifically mentioned the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which coincides with the Budget Session, as an illustration of India’s ambitious and confident approach. “At the start of this quarter, the India–EU Free Trade Agreement offers a glimpse of how bright the future is for India and its youth. This is free trade for ambitious Bharat, confident youth, and Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said.

PM Modi emphasised that Indian manufacturers and industrialists must leverage this opportunity not merely to trade at lower taxes, but to showcase superior quality products to all 27 EU member states. “If we go with superior quality, we will win the hearts of the 27 member states. This will have a long-term impact on our economy, farmers, youth, and professionals in the services sector seeking global opportunities,” he said.

Turning to governance, PM Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to “reform, performance, and transformation”. “We have swiftly boarded the ‘Reform Express’. I thank all MPs for their constructive contributions in accelerating this Reform Express. As a result, the Reform Express is now gathering speed,” he said, stressing that the administration is moving decisively toward long-term, predictable solutions for challenges that have lingered for years.

He added that technology would continue to be adopted and harnessed, but always with a human-centric approach, ensuring that progress does not compromise constitutional values or societal welfare. “Criticism and differing views are natural in a democracy, but there is widespread recognition that the government has prioritised last-mile delivery. It is not just about files moving, but about reaching lives,” he said.

PM Modi also highlighted India’s global significance, citing its democratic credentials and demographic potential as sources of hope for the world. “In this temple of democracy, we have an opportunity to convey to the global community our capabilities, commitment to democratic values, and the credibility of decisions taken through democratic processes. The world recognises and welcomes this,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister asserted that India is advancing with timely action rather than delays, reinforcing the vision of a confident, competitive, and future-ready nation.
