Jaipur Discom Breaks Records, Earns ₹104 Crore from Scrap Auctions

Jaipur, January 2026: Jaipur Discom has set a new record this financial year by earning more than ₹104 crore through the disposal of unusable materials. This is the highest revenue generated from scrap auctions in several years. The amount was realized through auctions of scrap material conducted at 13 circle stores of the corporation.

The scrap material included unusable transformers, wooden boxes, old VCBs, meters, damaged oil, condemned vehicles, old cables, iron drums, and other obsolete electrical equipment. Scrap collected from division and sub-division offices is deposited at the Assistant Store Controller’s office, from where it is auctioned and disposed of on a monthly basis.

Often, auctions are delayed due to officials being occupied with routine work, leading to deterioration of material and loss of potential revenue. To address this, Discom management directed the Chief Engineer (Material Management) and Superintending Engineer (Inspection and Stores) to expedite disposal. The headquarters’ inspection and stores wing coordinated with circle offices, prepared survey reports of auction-worthy scrap lying in the field, and closely monitored the auction process.

As a result, while only 115 and 185 auctions were conducted across all circles in FY 2023–24 and 2024–25 respectively, a total of 221 auctions have already been completed up to January in FY 2025–26. With two months still remaining in the financial year, this number is expected to increase further.

Auction of decades-old vehicles:
Several store offices had vehicles lying unused for over 15 years. Obtaining details of pending road tax and other dues from the Transport Department was challenging. The Discom management coordinated at the transport headquarters level and with transport officials in 15 districts. Based on survey reports, 48 vehicles were put up for auction, out of which 34 unusable vehicles were successfully auctioned.

More revenue expected in the next two months:
So far, the corporation has earned ₹104.39 crore through auctions this financial year, which is expected to rise to ₹125 crore by year-end. This is the highest revenue generated from scrap material in the past five years. In comparison, revenues from scrap auctions were ₹30.85 crore in 2020–21, ₹94.84 crore in 2021–22, ₹86.84 crore in 2022–23, ₹61.29 crore in 2023–24, and ₹55.76 crore in 2024–25.

Alwar and Jaipur District circles lead:
Among store offices, Alwar Circle earned the highest revenue of ₹24.79 crore, followed by Jaipur District Circle with ₹21.99 crore. Other major contributors include Dausa (₹9.34 crore), Bharatpur (₹6.26 crore), Kota (₹5.66 crore), Jaipur City Circle (₹5.28 crore), Baran (₹5.18 crore), Sawai Madhopur (₹5.17 crore), Bundi (₹4.73 crore), Tonk (₹4.54 crore), Karauli (₹4.31 crore), Jhalawar (₹4.17 crore), and Dholpur (₹2.94 crore).
