Budget 2026–27 Sets Clear Roadmap to $5 Trillion Economy: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha

Jammu, February 2026 : Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha has described the Union Budget 2026–27 as a pragmatic, forward-looking, and growth-oriented financial blueprint that will accelerate India’s economic momentum and place the country firmly on the path to becoming a $5 trillion economy within the next few years. He said the budget successfully balances ambitious growth targets with a strong commitment to social welfare and inclusive development.

Welcoming the budget, the Lieutenant Governor expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, particularly for initiatives such as the development of ecologically sustainable mountain trails in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He said this initiative would generate new employment opportunities while giving a fresh boost to the tourism sector in the region.

Shri Sinha noted that the Budget 2026–27 places strong emphasis on accelerating economic expansion, building future-ready infrastructure, and strengthening India’s manufacturing base across seven strategic sectors. He said these measures, along with a firm focus on welfare, would have a transformative impact on both emerging and established industries. The renewed momentum to the semiconductor sector through India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0 and the creation of specialized rare earth zones, he added, would significantly reduce India’s dependence on imports and enhance self-reliance in critical minerals.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that the budget positions Artificial Intelligence, job creation, and service sector expansion at the core of India’s future growth strategy. According to him, these focus areas will sharpen India’s competitive edge across all economic domains and lay a strong foundation for comprehensive sectoral expansion and greater global prominence.

Shri Sinha further stated that Budget 2026–27 not only charts a credible path towards achieving the $5 trillion economy milestone but also presents an ambitious vision to transform India into a developed economy in less than two decades. He emphasized that the budget promises unprecedented empowerment for youth, women, and farmers, ensuring that growth benefits reach every section of society.

He said that manufacturing, infrastructure, MSMEs, healthcare, urban development, electronics, and supply chain networks form the backbone of the future economic strategy outlined in the budget. With these sectors driving growth, India will be able to significantly expand domestic production capacity and create large-scale employment opportunities.

Concluding his remarks, the Lieutenant Governor said the progressive and balanced approach of Budget 2026–27 would strengthen India’s economic resilience, reinforce its global standing, and ensure sustained, inclusive, and long-term development for the nation.
