Mokama MLA Anant Singh Takes Oath Amid Tight Security, Returns to Jail
Patna, Feb 2026 : Newly elected Mokama MLA Anant Singh was sworn in as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Tuesday under stringent security arrangements, as he remains incarcerated in Beur Central Jail in connection with a murder case. The oath-taking followed special permission granted by the Patna Civil Court, allowing Singh to be produced before the Assembly solely for the purpose of assuming office.
Acting strictly in accordance with court directions, the authorities transported Singh from Beur Jail to the Assembly in an ambulance, accompanied by heavy police deployment. His movement was closely monitored throughout the process to ensure security and compliance with legal protocols. Officials said elaborate arrangements were made to avoid any disruption, given Singh’s high-profile political standing and the sensitivity surrounding his case.
Upon arrival at the Assembly premises, Singh formally took the oath as a legislator. Following the ceremony, he briefly met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a meeting that drew considerable attention from political circles. Singh also acknowledged and greeted people present at the Assembly complex before being escorted back to Beur Central Jail once the formalities were completed.
Earlier in the day, before leaving the jail, Singh spoke briefly to the media, stating that his immediate priority was to secure bail. He confirmed that an application for bail had already been filed and expressed confidence that he would be released soon. His remarks suggested optimism about the legal process, even as the case against him continues.
Addressing voters from his Mokama constituency, Singh sought to reassure them that development activities in the area were not affected by his incarceration. He said work was progressing as planned and promised to personally engage with residents once he is released. “All development work in Mokama is continuing. Once I am out, I will meet everyone and complete the remaining work,” he said.
Commenting on his electoral victory, Singh remarked that winning the election was not a difficult task for him, underscoring his strong political influence in the constituency. His win, despite being lodged in jail, has once again highlighted his deep-rooted presence in Mokama politics.
Officials reiterated that Singh’s escort to and from the Assembly was carried out strictly as per court instructions. The episode has attracted significant political attention in Bihar, given Singh’s long legal battles and his continued relevance in state politics.
Anant Singh is currently lodged in Beur Central Jail in connection with the alleged murder of Dularchand Yadav, which reportedly occurred during the campaign for the Bihar Assembly Election 2025. Despite being behind bars, Singh contested the election from Mokama and emerged victorious, adding another dramatic chapter to Bihar’s political landscape.
