Glasgow Opens Commonwealth Games 2026 with Grand Ceremony as India Begins Medal Quest

Glasgow, July 2026 : The 2026 Commonwealth Games officially got underway in Glasgow on Thursday with a spectacular opening ceremony at the OVO Hydro, marking the return of the multi-sport event to the Scottish city after 12 years. The glittering ceremony celebrated Scotland’s rich cultural heritage through music, dance and storytelling while welcoming thousands of athletes from across the Commonwealth for 11 days of world-class sporting competition.

India made a vibrant entry during the traditional Parade of Nations, with Olympic medallists Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain leading the 126-member contingent. The Indian athletes received a warm reception from the packed arena as the Tricolour was carried proudly into the stadium.
