Census 2027 State-Level Training Conference Held Virtually in Rajasthan
Jaipur, February 2026 : Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that an accurate census forms a vital foundation for development planning. Data collected during the census enables both the Central and State governments to effectively design and implement various public welfare schemes. He urged all personnel to treat census work as a national duty and carry it out with full dedication.
The Chief Minister was addressing the state-level training conference on Census-2027, held virtually on Saturday. He said that the more accurate the first phase of the census—house listing and housing enumeration—the more error-free and reliable the subsequent phase of population enumeration would be. Emphasising that the census is a constitutional obligation, he said the data generated helps assess the current level of development and the requirements needed to achieve future goals.
He explained that reliable census data provides detailed information on the living conditions of individuals and families in rural and urban areas, including access to electricity, water, roads, sanitation, schools, hospitals and domestic gas connections. Inaccurate data, he cautioned, would weaken both planning and implementation of government schemes.
Chief Minister Sharma further noted that delimitation of electoral constituencies is based on census data, as is the equitable distribution of national resources, grants and financial assistance. He highlighted that for the first time, the census will make extensive use of digital technology. Additionally, during the first phase of house listing, citizens will be given the option of self-enumeration from May 1 to May 15, 2026. He stressed the need for intensive and high-quality training of all census personnel to ensure transparent and accurate data collection, along with widespread public awareness to encourage active participation.
The Chief Minister directed all officers to closely monitor this work of national importance, hold regular review meetings and motivate their teams. He said that in Rajasthan, self-enumeration will be conducted from May 1 to May 15, followed by house listing from May 16 to June 14. Keeping in view Rajasthan’s challenging geography and summer conditions, he instructed officials to remain sensitive towards census workers while ensuring balanced workloads and high-quality execution.
The conference was attended by Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, Registrar General of India Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, and other senior officials.
