Paetongtarn Shinawatra Becomes Thailand’s Youngest Prime Minister
Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn has officially endorsed Paetongtarn Shinawatra as the country’s new prime minister. Her appointment follows the ousting of her predecessor, Srettha Thavisin, by the Constitutional Court. At 37, Paetongtarn, also known as Ung Ing, becomes Thailand’s youngest prime minister. She is the youngest child of billionaire Thaksin Shinawatra and the third member of her family to hold the top position, following her father and aunt.
The Thai Parliament recently confirmed her nomination by the ruling coalition of her Pheu Thai party. With the king’s endorsement now formalized, Paetongtarn will focus on assembling her Cabinet in the weeks ahead.
