Chief Minister Inspects Ganga Jal Reservoir, Reviews Preparations for Malmas Fair 2026
Patna, February 2026: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today inspected the Gangaji Rajgir Jalashay (reservoir) located near Morute village in the Naradigunj block of Nawada district. The Chief Minister toured the reservoir परिसर and took stock of the arrangements there. Officials informed him that the Ganga Jal Supply Scheme is being implemented effectively. On the Chief Minister’s instructions, iron fencing has been installed around the reservoir from a security perspective.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister said that under the Ganga Jal Supply Scheme, people in Gaya, Bodh Gaya, Nawada and Rajgir are being provided Ganga water as drinking water. He directed that people should continue to receive clean drinking water without interruption and that there should be no disruption of any kind. He also instructed that the reservoir premises be kept well-managed, clean, tidy and environmentally friendly.
After this, the Chief Minister inspected the Griddhakuta (Vulture Peak) complex in Rajgir, Nalanda district, and reviewed the arrangements there. He also reviewed the newly constructed ropeway starting from the Griddhakuta complex and took information about tourist facilities available there. The Chief Minister said that all arrangements should be managed properly so that tourists visiting the place do not face any inconvenience.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister reviewed the preparations for Malmas Mela-2026 at the Rajgir International Convention Centre. Nalanda District Magistrate Kundan Kumar briefed the Chief Minister on the preparations for Malmas Mela-2026.
Issuing directions to the District Magistrate, the Chief Minister said that preparations for Malmas Mela-2026 should be made in a better and systematic manner. A large number of devotees visit during the fair, and it should be ensured that they face no inconvenience. As the Malmas Mela is held for a full month, arrangements should be made keeping in mind the convenience of visiting devotees, including accommodation, drinking water, cleanliness, basic facilities and complete security arrangements.
He further said that along with clean water, proper arrangements should be made for cleanliness of the ghats. A large number of people arrive during the Malmas Mela, so all roads leading to Rajgir should be kept in good condition to avoid any inconvenience in movement. Considering the possibility of a large influx of people this year as well, special attention should be paid to accommodation, medical facilities, security and other essential arrangements so that devotees do not face any difficulty.
The Chief Minister also stressed that security arrangements should be robust. Adequate deployment of trained police forces should be ensured in the fair area so that the situation remains under control and visitors remain safe.
During the inspection, Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, MP Kaushalendra Kumar, MLA Krishna Murari Sharan (Prem Mukhiya), along with other public representatives, Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, Principal Secretary (Water Resources) Santosh Kumar Mall, Secretary to the Chief Minister Anupam Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Kumar Ravi, Special Officer to the Chief Minister Gopal Singh, Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Patna Divisional Commissioner Animesh Parashar, Patna Range Inspector General of Police Jitendra Rana, Magadh Range Inspector General of Police Kshetranil Singh, Nalanda District Magistrate Kundan Kumar, Nawada District Magistrate Ravi Prakash, Nalanda Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni, Nawada Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman, and other senior officials were present.
