‘War Against Drugs’ Campaign Scores Major Success

Chandigarh, February 2026:Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Friday said that the Punjab government’s Yudh Nashian Virudh (War Against Drugs) campaign has achieved another major breakthrough. A resident of Kalanour, Gurkirat Singh, was allegedly caught with drugs inside a cremation ground.

Cheema said the accused has direct links with the Indian National Congress, and photographs of Gurkirat Singh with several senior Congress leaders have surfaced. He claimed that these images clearly establish the political connections of the arrested individual.

The Finance Minister said Punjab is well aware that during the regimes of the Shiromani Akali Dal–Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and later under Congress rule, the state was flooded with drugs. “Today, one after another, people are being arrested whose direct or indirect links can be traced to Congress, the Akali Dal, and the BJP,” Cheema said. He added that these parties, which he accused of ruining Punjab, are now panicking as the truth comes out.

Cheema further stated that the sustained anti-drug drive under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is delivering concrete results. “Drug traffickers are either fleeing Punjab or ending up behind bars. The Mann government’s campaign against drugs has turned into a powerful convoy,” he said.

The Finance Minister also emphasized that individuals caught consuming drugs are not only being prosecuted but are also being provided medical treatment and rehabilitation so they can recover and rejoin society as healthy citizens.

Cheema said the people of Punjab are extending overwhelming support to the government’s efforts, turning the campaign into a mass movement across the state. “Lakhs of people are standing with the Punjab government and the Aam Aadmi Party because the Bhagwant Mann government is fully committed to eradicating drugs from Punjab once and for all,” he added.
