Maha Shivratri marks the conclusion of Magh Mela in Prayagraj, more than 22 crore devotees took a holy dip in 44 days

Shiv devotees welcomed with flower shower at Kashi Vishwanath Dham

Lucknow, February 2026 : The Magh Mela, symbolizing faith, penance and devotion, concluded on Sunday on the sacred occasion of Maha Shivratri at the holy Sangam in Prayagraj. The Sangam city reverberated with chants of Har Har Mahadev and Om Namah Shivaya.

In Gorakhpur, Chief Minister Yogi performed Rudrabhishek and Jalabhishek and prayed for the happy life of the people of the state. At Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Shiv devotees were welcomed with a shower of flowers. Offerings received from 63 temples across the country and abroad were presented to Lord Shri Vishweshwar.

On the occasion of the Maha Shivratri Snan Parv at the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, more than 40 lakh devotees took a holy dip at the Triveni. The total number of devotees who visited during the 44 day long Magh Mela crossed 22 crore. This is the highest ever recorded in any Magh Mela so far. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath kept a close watch on the organization and preparations of the Magh Mela and was continuously taking updates even on Maha Shivratri.

On the sacred occasion of Maha Shivratri, Chief Minister and Gorakshapeethadhishwar Yogi Adityanath performed Rudrabhishek of Bhagwan Shiva at the Shaktipeeth in Gorakhnath Temple on Sunday morning and prayed for a healthy, happy, prosperous and peaceful life for the people of the state. The Chief Minister also visited the ancient Mansarovar Temple at Andhiyari Bagh and Piteshwarnath Shiv Temple at Bharohiya, where he offered prayers and performed Dugdhbhishek and Jalabhishek, seeking the welfare of all creation.

On Maha Shivratri, Kashi was immersed in faith, enthusiasm and spiritual energy. Bound by devotion, lakhs of Shiv devotees gathered to witness the divine marriage ceremony of Lord Bholenath. Devotees offered belpatra, Gangajal and milk to Baba with reverence. Kashi echoed with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bol Bam.” A total of offerings for Shri Vishweshwar were received from 63 temples across the country and abroad. These offerings were presented during the midday Bhog Aarti of Lord Shri Vishweshwar and distributed among the devotees. By 6 pm, more than 5,20,000 devotees had paid obeisance in Baba’s court.

On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, a massive crowd of lakhs of devotees gathered in Ayodhya. At the ancient Nageshwar Nath Temple and Kshireshwar Nath Temple, along with other prominent Shiva temples, there was a continuous influx of Shiv devotees. For the safety of the devotees, the entire Ayodhya Dham was divided into five zones and 12 sectors. Additional police force was deployed in each zone and sector.
