Fish Farming Transforms Life: Likhmania Bai Earns Net Profit of Rs 1 Lakh in 10 Months
Raipur, February 2026 : Welfare schemes of the Chhattisgarh government are playing a crucial role in making rural women self-reliant. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Mrs. Likhmania Bai Minj of village Godha in the Pendra development block of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district has set a remarkable example of success by earning a net profit of Rs 1 lakh in just 10 months through fish farming.
Likhmania Bai said that after approaching the Assistant Director at the Fisheries Department office in GPM, she received scientific advice and technical guidance on fish farming using a liner pond in a small area. With the department’s support and financial assistance from the government, she constructed a liner pond on her private land and began her business. She said that the scheme has made her economically empowered and self-reliant.
Under the scheme, her total project cost was approved at Rs 14 lakh, of which 60 per cent—amounting to Rs 8.40 lakh—was provided as a subsidy and transferred directly to her bank account.
As a result of consistent hard work and technical support, Likhmania Bai sold around two tonnes of fish within approximately 10 months, generating an income of Rs 2.20 lakh. From this, she earned a net profit of Rs 1 lakh. At present, her pond still holds 8 to 10 quintals of fish, the sale of which is expected to further increase her income.
The Chhattisgarh government aims to ensure that more rural families—especially women—benefit from government schemes, take up self-employment, and enhance their livelihoods. Likhmania Bai’s success has emerged as an inspiration for other rural residents to adopt fish farming and achieve economic independence.
