Previous Government Did Nothing, Now Avoids Facing the Truth: CM Bhajanlal Sharma

Jaipur, February 2026 :Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that while his government presented a clear roadmap for the future through the Budget, it also, for the first time, placed a two-year report card of its performance before the House and offered the Opposition a meaningful debate on it. However, he alleged that the previous government had done nothing during its five-year tenure and now lacks the courage to hear the truth, which is why it walked out of the House.

Addressing the Assembly on Saturday, the Chief Minister said it is the responsibility of every government to present an annual report card of its work. His government placed a transparent account of its two years before the public. Accepting the Opposition’s challenge, a “2 years versus 5 years” comparative report was tabled in the House. He said the Opposition had nothing to say, because a debate would have exposed the truth of their five-year tenure to the people.

Logical debate on development would have benefited democracy

The Chief Minister said the government presented a written booklet comparing development works and policies of the current and previous governments, and the Speaker had permitted a discussion on it. In a parliamentary democracy, he said, a logical debate on development works and policies across different political tenures would only strengthen democratic traditions.

73% promises fulfilled in two years; previous government left 53% announcements incomplete

Shri Sharma said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guided by the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, the state government is working for public welfare. Of the 392 promises in the government’s resolution document, 73% have already been fulfilled or are in progress, and all remaining promises will also be completed.

He contrasted this with the previous government, which made 4,148 budget announcements in five years, of which 2,208—about 53%—remained unfulfilled. In the final year alone (2023–24), 1,426 announcements were made, and no work was done on 80% of them.

626 announcements saw zero work

The Chief Minister said 626 announcements of the previous government saw absolutely no work and were merely populist promises for vote-bank politics. Announcements such as distributing 2,000 pilot drones worth ₹450 crore, building four MICE centres at ₹400 crore, five golf courses at ₹125 crore, and a Vishwakarma SME Tower at ₹125 crore recorded “zero” progress.

Policies translated into action on the ground

Shri Sharma said his government is delivering policy-driven development on the ground. In just two years, 2,719 budget announcements were made, of which 919 have been completed and work is underway on 1,531. Thus, approvals for 90% announcements have been issued, and 80% are either completed or under implementation.

Three times more pensioners added

Emphasising inclusive welfare, he said the government not only continued earlier schemes but strengthened them. Minimum social security pension was increased early in the tenure and has now been raised to ₹1,300. Over 10 lakh new pensioners were added in two years—three times more than the previous government’s comparable period. Expenditure on elderly pensions touched ₹16,069 crore, significantly higher than earlier, while spending on disability pensions and welfare schemes also rose sharply.

He highlighted the success of the “Give Up” campaign under the National Food Security Act, where around 54 lakh people voluntarily opted out and 27 lakh ineligible names were removed through e-KYC, while about 72 lakh eligible beneficiaries were newly included.

Youth empowerment and jobs

The Chief Minister said the previous government’s tenure was marred by paper leaks, creating uncertainty among youth. In contrast, the current government trained over 3.41 lakh youths in two years—one and a half times more than the previous government’s five-year figure. Over 88,000 tablets and laptops were distributed, whereas none were given earlier. More colleges and polytechnics were opened, and over 1 lakh government appointments were made in two years, with recruitment underway for another 1.55 lakh posts and a recruitment calendar issued for 2026.

Health, water, and women welfare

He said spending on health in two years exceeded even the COVID-19 period’s insurance expenditure, with ₹7,445 crore provided as cashless treatment. Health infrastructure expansion also outpaced earlier efforts. On water security, projects like the Ramjal Setu Link and bringing Yamuna water to Rajasthan are finally moving ahead after decades of delay. Several women-centric schemes that saw zero work earlier are now being actively implemented.

The Chief Minister concluded that across sectors—development, welfare, youth, health, and water—the government’s two-year performance stands far ahead of the previous government’s five-year record.
