Denmark Allocates An Additional DKK 3.8 Billion To The Ukraine Fund This Year.

Copenhagen; February 2026: The Danish government will allocate an additional DKK 3.8 billion to the Ukraine Fund in 2026. The government will thus allocate funds equivalent to Denmark’s defence spending amounting to 3.5% of GDP in 2026.

For almost 04 years, Ukraine has been fighting a tireless battle against the Russian invasion. From the beginning, Denmark has stood by Ukraine and has so far made decisions on military donations worth more than 70 billion kroner.

In connection with the government’s economic plan, it is planned to spend an additional 3.8 billion kroner for the Ukraine Foundation in 2026.

“Support for Ukraine’s defence struggle also contributes to the defence of Europe and Denmark. Ukraine’s struggle also concerns our security. Europe must not forget the Ukrainians’ struggle, and therefore it is important to me that the government plans to allocate more than 3.8 billion kroner extra for Ukraine this year. I am proud that Denmark is leading the way here”, says Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.

In March 2023, the Danish government and a broad majority in the Danish Parliament established the Ukraine Foundation, with the objective of ensuring uninterrupted continued Danish support for Ukraine.

Denmark has decided to provide military support to Ukraine for more than 70 billion kroner from 2022-2028. This includes F-16 fighter jets, air defence missiles, tanks, artillery and drones.

In 2024, Denmark became the first country to implement direct military donations produced by the Ukrainian defence industry via the Ukrainian state. As part of this “Danish model”, the EU and a number of allies, together with Denmark, have contributed over DKK 17 billion in this way over the past two years.

Denmark has already allocated 9.6 billion kroner to the Ukraine Foundation in 2026, and an additional 0.6 billion kroner is expected to be added from the proceeds from the sale of F-16s. With the additional 3.8 billion kroner, DKK means that Denmark is expected to contribute a total of DKK 14.0 billion to Ukraine in 2026. At the same time, work is underway on a larger, joint loan package from the EU, which will support Ukraine in the coming time.

“Denmark has been rearming a lot and quickly, and I am pleased that the government has already managed to allocate 3.5% of GDP to defence and security this year. This is the highest level in decades and is in line with the massive development that the Armed Forces have undergone in recent years”, reiterated Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.

In practice, the prioritisation means that the government allocates funds that will make defence spending 3.5% of GDP in 2026. Thus, in 2026, Denmark will meet the NATO objective that member states from 2035 must increase their defence and security spending to at least 05% of their GDP in 2035, where at least 3.5% must be spent on core military needs.
