Madhya Pradesh among Top States in Agricultural Production: CM Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that consistent growth in agricultural output has enabled Madhya Pradesh to secure a prominent place among the country’s top agricultural states. According to the Economic Survey 2025–26 released by the Government of India, Madhya Pradesh ranks among the top three states in the production of foodgrains, pulses, and oilseeds. The State secured second position in foodgrain production with an output of 46.63 million tonnes, contributing approximately 13.04 per cent to the national output. It ranked first in pulses production and second in oilseed production in the country.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav further stated that with the objective of increasing farmers’ income and ensuring their overall welfare, the year 2026 is being observed as “Krishak Kalyan Varsh” in the State.
Second in the Country in Foodgrain Production
In wheat production, the State recorded an output of 24.51 million tonnes, securing second position in the country with a national share of approximately 20.78 per cent.
Madhya Pradesh also remained a leading producer of maize, with production reaching 6.64 million tonnes and contributing about 15.30 per cent to the national output, making it one of the country’s major maize-producing states.
In coarse cereals (nutri/coarse cereals), the State produced 7.78 million tonnes, accounting for around 12.17 per cent of national production and ranking third in the country.
Retains Top Position in Pulses Production
Madhya Pradesh delivered an outstanding performance in pulses production, producing 5.24 million tonnes and securing first position nationally with a 20.40 per cent share.
In gram (chickpea) production, the State produced 2.11 million tonnes, accounting for approximately 19.01 per cent of the national output, and ranked second among the top three states.
Among Leading States in Oilseed Production
The State also maintained a strong position in oilseed production. With a output of 8.25 million tonnes, Madhya Pradesh secured second place nationally, contributing around 19.19 per cent to oilseed production.
In soybean production, the State produced 5.38 million tonnes, accounting for approximately 35.27 per cent of the country’s output, thereby establishing itself as one of the leading soybean-producing states in India.
Groundnut production in the State stood at 1.55 million tonnes, contributing 12.99 per cent to national output and placing Madhya Pradesh third in the country.
The State has ensured effective implementation of various Central and State Government agricultural development schemes, including distribution of chemical fertilizers, plant protection programs, crop diversification based on demand-driven agriculture, the One District–One Product scheme, the Madhya Pradesh State Millet Mission, formation and promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Bhavantar Payment Scheme, and the Rani Durgavati Shri Anna Incentive Scheme.
As a result of these initiatives and agriculture-focused policies, the State has recorded significant growth in agricultural production and has emerged as a key contributor to the national agricultural economy.
