Serena and Venus Williams Set for Emotional Wimbledon Return After Receiving Doubles Wildcard

London, June 2026 : Tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams are set to reunite on the iconic grass courts of Wimbledon after receiving a wildcard entry into the women’s doubles competition, marking the return of one of the sport’s most celebrated partnerships. The announcement has generated immense excitement ahead of the Championships, which begin on June 29, as the sisters prepare to write another chapter in their storied careers.

The wildcard grants the Williams sisters direct entry into the doubles draw at the All England Club, where they have built one of the greatest legacies in Grand Slam history. However, neither Serena nor Venus has been included in the initial list of women’s singles wildcard recipients. Tournament organizers are yet to allocate one remaining singles wildcard, leaving open the possibility that one of the sisters could still feature in the singles competition.

For fans across the world, the biggest attraction is the return of Serena Williams to Grand Slam tennis after a four-year absence. The 44-year-old, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, last competed in a major tournament at the 2022 US Open, which many believed marked the end of her illustrious playing career.

Yet Serena’s passion for the game has endured. Earlier this month, she made an unexpected comeback by partnering with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko in the doubles event at Queen’s Club. The pair won their opening match before an injury to Mboko forced them to withdraw from the tournament, temporarily halting Serena’s return.

Undeterred, Serena has continued her comeback preparations at the Berlin Tennis Open, where she is partnering Czech star Karolina Muchova in doubles ahead of Wimbledon. Her return to competitive tennis has reignited excitement among fans eager to see one of the game’s greatest players back on the court.

The Williams sisters’ record at Wimbledon is nothing short of extraordinary. Together, they have won six women’s doubles titles at the All England Club and remain unbeaten in Grand Slam doubles finals. Across all majors, Serena and Venus have captured an incredible 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, cementing their place among the most dominant pairings in tennis history.

Their achievements on Wimbledon’s grass courts extend beyond Grand Slam success. In 2012, the sisters claimed Olympic women’s doubles gold at the same venue, adding to the Olympic titles they won at the Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008 Games.

While Serena’s return has captured headlines, Venus Williams will also be seeking a resurgence. The 45-year-old seven-time Grand Slam singles champion has endured a difficult singles campaign this year, losing all seven of her matches. However, she enjoyed success in doubles earlier in the season by winning the Madrid Open alongside Britain’s Katie Boulter.

The Wimbledon wildcard announcements have also featured several notable names in the singles draws. Former Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka has secured a place in the men’s singles main draw as he embarks on what is expected to be the final season of his career. Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov has also received a wildcard entry.

Meanwhile, Britain’s Dan Evans was not granted direct entry into the men’s singles draw despite announcing that this year’s Wimbledon will likely be his last before retirement.

On the women’s side, French Open runner-up Maja Chwalinska earned a wildcard following her impressive run at Roland Garros.

Despite the many intriguing storylines surrounding this year’s Championships, few are likely to resonate as deeply as the return of Serena and Venus Williams. More than two decades after transforming women’s tennis with their power, athleticism and dominance, the iconic sisters are set to step onto Wimbledon’s grass once again—together.

Their comeback is more than just a sporting event; it is a celebration of a partnership that changed tennis forever and continues to inspire generations around the world.
