New Four-Lane Road from Dongla will Transform Mahidpur’s Future: CM Dr. Yadav
Bhopal, June 2026 : Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Ujjain and its surrounding region are blessed by the sacred Kshipra River, revered as a giver of salvation. The river provides ample water to farmers for agricultural activities. He noted that Mahidpur is fortunate to host nearly all the major dams and reservoirs built on the Kshipra River. Chief Minister said that development works worth thousands of crores of rupees are currently underway in and around Ujjain in preparation for the grand Simhastha 2028.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that the new four-lane road passing through Dongla would transform Mahidpur’s future and accelerate its development. He also said that Mahidpur has emerged as an important transportation hub and the new infrastructure will further strengthen its connectivity and growth.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav addressed an inauguration ceremony organised for development projects in the Mahidpur Assembly constituency of Ujjain district on Wednesday. He inaugurated 19 development works worth ₹207.57 crore. These included the inauguration of the Samakota Barrage constructed at a cost of approximately ₹188.42 crore, new buildings for 13 sub-health centres, new college and school buildings and a new power substation. The Chief Minister said that the Samakota Barrage would provide fresh momentum to water conservation efforts in Ujjain district. It will help improve groundwater levels, ensuring adequate water for irrigation and providing a significant boost to agricultural productivity. He said that this effort to conserve every drop of water would serve as a strong safeguard for the future of Ujjain and the upcoming Simhastha.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Mahidpur is famous for its traditional Mawa-Bati sweet and the renowned Mahidpur Gulati. He remarked that visiting Mahidpur is always a special experience. He also noted that Mahidpur is associated with the legendary friendship of Lord Shri Krishna and Sudama.
Referring to Dongla’s contribution to timekeeping and astronomy, the Chief Minister said that Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh had established observatories (Jantar Mantar) in Ujjain, Banaras, Jaipur, Mathura, and Delhi nearly 300 years ago. Carrying forward the legacy of Samrat Vikramaditya and Aryabhata, the State Government has established a modern observatory at Dongla. Efforts are underway to establish Dongla as a global reference point for determining standard time.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that India has established a distinct identity on the global stage under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He noted that Shri Modi is the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of the country and has introduced transformative welfare initiatives, including free housing, cooking gas connections for the poor and free healthcare coverage of up to ₹5 lakh. The Chief Minister said that the State Government has also introduced innovative initiatives such as Air Ambulance services. Under the Rahveer Yojana, individuals who assist road accident victims are provided an incentive of ₹25,000. He emphasised that the government remains committed to the welfare of the poor, farmers, youth, and women.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the State Government is continuously providing financial assistance under the Kisan Samman Nidhi and the Ladli Behna Yojana. So far, more than ₹60,000 crore has been transferred to beneficiaries under the Ladli Behna scheme. He stated that while the previous year was dedicated to industry and employment, the current year has been dedicated to farmers’ welfare. The Chief Minister saidd that Madhya Pradesh had only 7.5 lakh hectares of irrigated land in earlier years. Efforts to expand irrigation began in 2002–03, and by the time the present government assumed office in 2023, about 44 lakh hectares of agricultural land had irrigation facilities.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that within just two and a half years, the irrigated area has increased to 65 lakh hectares. The State Government has now set a target of expanding the irrigation coverage to 100 lakh hectares within the next two and a half years. He added that farmers are being provided remunerative prices for their produce. Wheat was procured at ₹2,652 per quintal with the assurance of MSP, while soybean farmers have also benefited through the Bhavantar Scheme. The government is continuously strengthening roads, electricity, water supply, and other essential infrastructure for farmers. He announced that farmers would now receive electricity for irrigation during daytime hours as well.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav recalled that when conditions in Ujjain were not favourable in the past, the descendants of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar and the then ruler organised Simhastha in Mahidpur. A ghat named after Maharani Gangabai also stands in Mahidpur. He said that Mahidpur’s historic land witnessed the glorious struggle marked by the courage, valour and sacrifice of Maharani Gangabai and the brave warriors of the 1857 uprising. Their contribution left an indelible imprint on the history of India’s freedom movement.
Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silawat, Ujjain Member of Parliament Shri Anil Firojiya, Mahidpur MLA Shri Dinesh Jain (Boss), and other dignitaries also addressed the gathering. Several public representatives, including Shri Bahadur Singh, and a large number of local residents were present on the occasion.
