Strict Action Against Those Found Guilty in Drug Cases: CM Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai, Feb 2026 : The state government has adopted a tough stance against drug rackets and is taking stringent action against those found guilty in drug-related cases, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the Legislative Assembly. He said the government would make no compromise when it comes to protecting the future of the youth.
The Chief Minister was responding to a question raised in the Assembly by MLA Varun Sardesai regarding action against those involved in anti-narcotics operations.
Fadnavis said that action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) is being initiated against individuals involved in the drug supply chain, and procedures are underway to seize their properties. He stressed that the government follows a zero-tolerance policy. Not only the accused directly involved in drug rackets, but also those providing direct or indirect assistance are being identified and acted against. He added that police personnel found guilty will not merely be suspended but will face outright dismissal.
The Chief Minister also noted that social media platforms such as Instagram are being misused for drug sales and are therefore under close surveillance. He pointed out that chemical drugs are often manufactured in small locations and are extremely dangerous, prompting strict monitoring of licenses and usage of chemicals involved in their production. He informed the House that Mumbai Police have arrested an accused from abroad in one such case, calling the drug menace a major challenge for both the state and the country.
Minister of State Yogesh Kadam informed the House that 10 police personnel have been dismissed in drug-related cases over the past year.
During the discussion, members Aslam Shaikh and Hemant Ogale also participated.
