Navi Mumbai, March 2026 : Describing the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, revered as ‘Hind Di Chadar’, as a unique and unparalleled event in world history, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the history of the Guru’s sacrifice will be included in the school curriculum so that it reaches future generations. He also declared that a hospital will be established in Navi Mumbai in the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the grand 350th Shaheedi Samagam of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, organised at Kharghar under the ‘Hind Di Chadar’ theme by the Minority Development Department and the State-Level Samagam Committee, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar, among other dignitaries, were present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, the ninth Guru of the Sikh faith, laid down his life in 1675 to protect Indian culture, faith, and values. Because of his sacrifice, people today can practise their beliefs with dignity and freedom. To honour this supreme sacrifice, the Maharashtra government has decided to organise Shaheedi Samagam programmes across the state.

He clarified that the event is not limited to the Sikh community alone but belongs to all people of faith. Referring to large-scale Shaheedi Samagams held in Nagpur, Nanded, and Navi Mumbai, he noted that devotees from across India and abroad have participated in large numbers.

Highlighting the deep historical bond between Maharashtra and Punjab, the Chief Minister said that Sant Namdev Maharaj travelled from Maharashtra to Ghuman in Punjab, and his compositions are included in the Guru Granth Sahib. He also recalled that Guru Gobind Singh visited Maharashtra and breathed his last at Nanded. The martyrdom of three generations of Guru Gobind Singh’s family, he said, is a rare example in world history.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s Contribution Is a Glorious Chapter in Human History: Eknath Shinde

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, known as ‘Hind Di Chadar’, was a protector of humanity and a symbol of supreme sacrifice. His martyrdom is not merely a historical event but a glorious chapter in the history of humankind. He gave up his life to protect culture and tradition, setting an eternal example of unwavering faith and courage.

Shinde said the Guru may not have wielded weapons, but he possessed the power of truth and compassion. By raising his voice against injustice, he stood for the rights of the poor and the oppressed. True religion, he added, is one that respects and protects the faith of others.

Emphasising historical ties, he said Nanded is the karmabhoomi of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, while Sant Namdev Maharaj carried the flag of the Bhakti tradition to Punjab. He added that the state government is taking the lead in spreading the thoughts and legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji through digital chariots across Maharashtra, aiming to connect Sikh, Sikkalgar, Banjara, Labana, Sindhi, Mohyal, Valmiki, Udasi, and Bhagat Namdev (Warkari) communities in a common thread and pass on this legacy to future generations.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s Sacrifice for Humanity Remains an Inspiration: Sunetra Ajit Pawar

Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar said that the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji for the protection of religious freedom and human rights continues to inspire even today. Standing fearlessly against injustice in the 17th century, the Guru safeguarded India’s cultural and spiritual identity. Remembering his sacrifice and carrying forward his ideals, she said, is the true inspiration behind the Shaheedi Samagam.

Paying homage to Guru Nanak Dev, she highlighted Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s teachings of prayer, selfless service, simplicity, charity, and fearlessness. His verses are enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib, and his martyrdom strengthened the Sikh tradition of courage and sacrifice.

Quoting the message, “Do not frighten anyone, and do not be afraid of anyone,” she said this teaching is especially relevant in today’s fast-paced life and appealed to society to nurture love, unity, and brotherhood. She expressed confidence that the 350th Shaheedi Samagam would inspire devotees across generations.

Several ministers, public representatives, religious leaders, and dignitaries from various communities were present at the programme.
