New Delhi, March 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday and briefed him on the recent developments related to Maoist activities in the state, including the surrender of several Maoist leaders and ongoing efforts to bring remaining cadres into the mainstream.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister provided a detailed overview of the progress made by the state government in addressing Left-wing extremism and promoting rehabilitation initiatives for those who surrender. He informed the Union Home Minister that in the last two years, a total of 591 Maoists had laid down their arms and returned to normal life in Telangana, marking a significant step toward peace and stability in the region.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy and other senior police officials. According to an official statement issued by the state police department, the meeting focused on the encouraging trend of Maoist leaders voluntarily surrendering and the government’s commitment to ensuring their proper rehabilitation.
Revanth Reddy explained the various support measures being extended by the state government to surrendered Maoists, including financial assistance, livelihood opportunities, and social reintegration programmes aimed at helping them lead a normal life. He said the government’s rehabilitation policy has been playing an important role in encouraging more Maoists to give up violence and join the democratic process.
The discussion also covered the need for continued support from the Central government for development initiatives in remote and backward areas, which are often vulnerable to extremist influence. Both leaders reviewed strategies to strengthen development activities in such regions as part of a broader effort to maintain long-term peace and stability.
Security-related matters concerning Telangana were also part of the deliberations. The Chief Minister briefed the Union Home Minister on various steps taken by the state government to strengthen law enforcement and maintain law and order.
He highlighted the work of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, which has been actively addressing cybercrime and emerging digital threats. The Chief Minister also spoke about administrative reforms in policing, including the recent reorganisation of the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri police commissionerates, as well as the creation of a new Future City Police Commissionerate to support the city’s rapid expansion.
Revanth Reddy pointed out that Hyderabad’s fast-growing population and expanding urban infrastructure have significantly increased administrative and policing requirements. In this context, he urged the Union government to enhance the number of Indian Police Service officers allotted to Telangana.
The Chief Minister stressed that additional Indian Police Service officers would help strengthen law enforcement, improve governance, and ensure effective policing in the rapidly growing metropolitan areas of the state.
Senior officials including Principal Secretary V. Seshadri, Additional DGP (Intelligence) Vijay Kumar, and IGP (Special Intelligence Bureau) B. Sumati were also present during the meeting. Both sides expressed their commitment to continued coordination between the Centre and the state to ensure security, development, and good governance in Telangana.
