PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for Kota–Bundi Greenfield Airport

Jaipur, March 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Kota–Bundi Greenfield Airport foundation stone ceremony through video conferencing on Saturday. He said that last week from the land of Ajmer, development works worth thousands of crores were inaugurated and foundation stones laid. During the same programme, appointment letters were also distributed to 21,000 youth of Rajasthan. Now, the opportunity has come to start this important project related to Kota. Having two major development programmes in Rajasthan within a single week sends a strong message, he said.

Kota–Bundi Greenfield Airport Will Give New Momentum to Development of Hadoti Region

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Modi said that work in Rajasthan is progressing rapidly in areas such as infrastructure, employment opportunities for youth, and schemes for farmers and women. Today is a day of new hope and achievement for Kota, Bundi, Baran, Jhalawar and the entire Hadoti region. The Kota–Bundi Greenfield Airport, to be built at a cost of about ₹1,500 crore, will give new momentum to the development of the region in the coming years.

He said that in November 2023, he had promised the people of Kota that the airport would be built, and now that promise is being fulfilled. Until now, people of Kota had to take flights from Jaipur or Jodhpur, which caused inconvenience and took time. When the airport becomes operational, travel will become easier and business will grow in Kota and surrounding areas.

New Airport Will Expand Opportunities

The Prime Minister said that Kota is not only a major centre of education but also a major energy hub where electricity is produced from nuclear, coal, gas, and water sources. The Hadoti region is also famous for its heritage. Kota Kachori, Kota Doria, Kota stone, and sandstone have gained recognition worldwide. Products such as coriander from Kota and Bundi’s Basmati rice have reached international markets. The new airport will further expand the region’s possibilities.

Hadoti – A Centre of Enterprise and Faith

Prime Minister Modi said that the land of Kota and Hadoti is also a centre of enterprise and faith. Devotees from across the country visit places like Mathuradhish Temple, Keshorai Patan, Khade Ganesh Ji, and Godavari Balaji Dham. The view of the Chambal River from Garadia Mahadev is mesmerizing, and wildlife sanctuaries such as Mukundra Hills and Ramgarh Vishdhari make the region an important wildlife tourism destination. Improved air connectivity will attract tourists from India and abroad, benefiting youth, traders, and the regional economy.

Kota Will Become a Major Centre for Agro-Based Industry

The Prime Minister said that Kota is advancing in connectivity in every direction. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, both major railway stations in Kota are being modernized. The Delhi–Mumbai Expressway passes through Kota and Bundi, reducing travel time to cities like Delhi, Vadodara, and Mumbai to just a few hours. Better road and rail connectivity has already encouraged industries to establish themselves in the region, especially agro-based industries. Air connectivity will further accelerate development.

He also noted that the number of airports in India has increased from about 70 before 2014 to more than 160 today, making air travel easier, boosting tourism, creating jobs, and accelerating regional development.

Dream of Kota Airport Fulfilled Under Double-Engine Government

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, speaking at the ceremony in Shambhupura, said that the people of the Kota region had demanded a Greenfield Airport for decades, and the foundation stone laid today fulfills a major dream of the Hadoti region. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling the promise made in 2023.

He said that Kota already has good road and rail connectivity, adequate water resources, and is a major power producer. With improved air connectivity, new doors of development will open. RIICO has also decided to develop 600 hectares of land near the airport to promote industries.

Civil Aviation Has Become Civilian Aviation

Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjrapu Ram Mohan Naidu said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the long wait for the Kota Greenfield Airport has ended. The airport will create new opportunities in tourism, employment, and trade.

He said the airport will be built over 1,100 acres, with a 20,000 sq. metre terminal building, at a cost of ₹1,507 crore. The terminal will combine modern design with heritage elements.

He added that since 2014, a new airport is being inaugurated in India approximately every 45 days, and air travel is no longer limited to the wealthy but has become accessible to the common people.

Government Working for Development of All Sections

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said the state government had prepared a development roadmap two years ago focusing on farmers, workers, women, the poor, and youth. The government is working on several water projects, including the Ramjal Setu Link Project, Yamuna water agreement, and improvements in the Indira Gandhi Canal and Gang Canal systems.

He said that with the addition of air connectivity, Kota will emerge not only as an education hub but also as an industrial hub. The government is also working to make the state self-reliant in electricity and ensure power supply to farmers during the daytime.

Earlier, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu formally laid the foundation stone of the Kota–Bundi Greenfield Airport. They also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Parwan Akawad and Naunera drinking water projects.

The event was attended by Education Minister Madan Dilawar, Public Health Engineering Minister Kanhaiyalal Chaudhary, Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar, Civil Aviation Minister of State Gautam Kumar Dak, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, MLAs, public representatives, and a large number of citizens.
