Nitish Kumar’s Son Nishant Joins JD(U), Begins Political Journey
Patna, March 2026 : Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, officially joined the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) on Sunday at the party headquarters in Patna, marking the beginning of his formal entry into active politics.
The joining ceremony was attended by several senior leaders of the party. Among those present were JD(U) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, and the party’s state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha.
During the ceremony, party leaders welcomed Nishant Kumar into the organisation in a traditional manner. Sanjay Kumar Jha presented him with a party memento and cap, symbolising his induction into JD(U). Lalan Singh honoured him by tying the party turban, marking the formal start of his political journey.
After joining the party, Nishant Kumar addressed party workers and leaders. He said that he would work under the guidance of his father, Nitish Kumar, and continue to support the party’s mission in Bihar.
“Today I have joined the party. My father has decided to go to the Rajya Sabha, and that is his decision. I will work in Bihar under his guidance,” Nishant said while speaking to the media.
He also highlighted the work done by Nitish Kumar for the development of Bihar over the years and expressed his commitment to carrying forward that legacy. Nishant thanked the party leadership for welcoming him and appealed to party workers and supporters to maintain their enthusiasm and faith in the organisation.
Following the ceremony, Nishant Kumar greeted senior leaders and touched the feet of Lalan Singh as a mark of respect.
According to JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar, Nishant Kumar will soon begin touring different parts of Bihar to interact with people and understand local issues.
Party sources indicated that his political outreach may start from the Champaran region. Champaran holds symbolic importance for the party, as Nitish Kumar had also launched several of his political campaigns and visits from the same region in the past.
JD(U) leaders believe that Nishant Kumar could play an important role in strengthening the party’s organisational structure in the coming years. Reiterating his commitment, Nishant said he is ready to take up any responsibility assigned to him by the party and will work with full dedication to carry forward its development agenda in Bihar.
