Trump Says Call with Putin Was ‘Very Good’, Discusses Ukraine War and Middle East Tensions
Washington, March 2026 : Donald Trump said he held a “very good” phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, during which the two leaders discussed the ongoing Russia–Ukraine War as well as the escalating crisis in the Middle East.
Speaking at a press conference in Florida, Trump confirmed that the discussion with the Russian president involved senior officials from both sides. According to Trump, the conversation focused initially on the prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine before shifting to the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East.
“Yes, I had a very good call with President Putin,” Trump told reporters. “We had a lot of people on the line from our side and from his side. We talked about Ukraine, which has become a never-ending fight.”
Trump noted that the strained relationship between Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to complicate diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict. He suggested that personal tensions between the two leaders have made it difficult to reach a settlement or even move forward with meaningful negotiations.
“There’s tremendous hatred between President Putin and President Zelenskyy. They just can’t seem to get it together,” Trump said, indicating that the hostile dynamic has been one of the major obstacles to ending the war.
Despite the difficulties, Trump described the conversation as constructive and positive. He said both sides exchanged views on possible ways to reduce tensions and bring an end to the fighting in Ukraine.
“I think it was a positive call on that subject,” he said, adding that the discussion then turned toward the growing tensions in the Middle East.
Trump said Putin expressed a willingness to play a constructive role in addressing the escalating crisis in the region. According to the US president, the Russian leader indicated that Moscow was prepared to help ease the situation if possible.
“And he wants to be helpful,” Trump said, referring to Putin’s stance during the call.
However, Trump emphasized that the most meaningful contribution Russia could make would be to help end the war with Ukraine. “I told him that getting the Ukraine-Russia war over with would be a very helpful step,” he said.
The US president did not reveal any specific proposals or agreements that may have been discussed during the call.
The conversation comes at a time of heightened global tensions as the United States and Israel continue major military operations against Iran under the campaign known as Operation Epic Fury.
During the same press conference, Trump highlighted the scale of the ongoing military campaign, claiming that thousands of targets had been struck and significant elements of Iran’s military capabilities had been weakened.
The call between Trump and Putin comes amid rising geopolitical tensions and increased diplomatic engagement among major global powers as the Middle East crisis continues to unfold.
