Iran Claims Strikes on US Bases Across Middle East, Closes Strait of Hormuz After American Airstrikes
Tehran, July 2026 : Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday claimed responsibility for launching coordinated retaliatory strikes against US military bases in Jordan, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain, following American airstrikes on military installations in southern Iran earlier in the day.
In a series of statements carried by its official outlet Sepah News, the IRGC alleged that the United States had targeted several Iranian coastal military bases and communications towers during attacks on the country’s southern provinces, prompting a large-scale military response.
According to the IRGC, the first phase of the retaliatory operation focused on Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan. Iranian forces claimed to have struck key US military infrastructure at the base, including its command and control centre and hangars housing MQ-9 Reaper drones.
In the second phase, the IRGC said it targeted a vessel it described as “violating” regulations in the Strait of Hormuz before launching missile strikes on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, one of the largest US military facilities in the Middle East. Iran claimed the attack damaged the base’s command facilities as well as aircraft maintenance and overhaul centres.
The third phase reportedly involved strikes on logistical support centres and refuelling facilities serving US aircraft carriers at the Port of Duqm in Oman. The IRGC described the assault as a “heavy and surprise” attack that destroyed key military infrastructure.
Separately, the Iranian Army announced that it had launched drone attacks on what it described as “terrorist” US military bases and facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain in response to the American airstrikes.
According to Iranian military officials, kamikaze drones struck a Patriot air defence system, an ammunition depot and a radar installation used by US forces in Kuwait. In Bahrain, Iranian drones allegedly targeted US military communications systems and radar facilities.
The IRGC warned that any further US military action against Iran would trigger an even stronger response, signalling that Tehran remains prepared for additional escalation if hostilities continue.
In a significant development with potential global implications, the IRGC Navy also announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until further notice, citing what it described as insecurity caused by “foreigners’ illegal interference” in the region.
Iran stated that no commercial or military vessel would be permitted to transit the strategically vital waterway until the United States ceases its military interventions in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, handling nearly 20 per cent of global seaborne oil trade. Any prolonged disruption to shipping through the strait is expected to have major consequences for international energy markets, global trade and regional security.
