India Climbs to Sixth as Boxing and Para Athletics Golds Lift Commonwealth Games Medal Tally to 30

Glasgow, Aug 2026 : India strengthened its position at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Saturday, climbing to sixth place in the medal standings after a spectacular run of performances across boxing, athletics, judo and weightlifting.

India’s medal tally has reached 30 medals — eight gold, 15 silver and seven bronze. The latest surge was powered by two gold medals in boxing and another top podium finish in men’s shot put F57, adding to India’s impressive campaign in Glasgow.

India’s boxing contingent has emerged as one of the biggest contributors to the country’s success. With 10 Indian boxers reaching their respective gold-medal bouts, the country is assured of at least 10 more medals from the discipline, with the possibility of a major increase in the gold tally.

Weightlifting remains India’s most productive discipline so far, accounting for eight medals. Athletics and judo have also made significant contributions, while para-athletics has added several important podium finishes.

At the top of the standings, Australia continue to dominate with 133 medals, including 57 gold, 31 silver and 45 bronze. England are second with 83 medals, followed by Canada with 54. Hosts Scotland occupy fourth position with 34 medals, while Nigeria are fifth with 20.

India’s eight gold medals have come from weightlifting, judo, boxing and para-athletics. Mirabai Chanu opened India’s gold-medal account in women’s 48kg weightlifting, while Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh produced memorable performances in judo.

Boxers Preeti Pawar and Jaismine Lamboria added two more gold medals, winning the women’s 54kg and 57kg categories respectively. In para-athletics, Sharmila Dhankar, Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Soman Rana have also secured gold medals.

India’s silver-medal haul includes performances from several high-profile athletes. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won silver in the men’s javelin, while Yashvir Singh claimed bronze in the same event. Chopra’s 85.83m effort was overshadowed by Sri Lanka’s R.T. Pathirage, who produced a stunning 89.75m throw for gold.

Tejaswin Shankar also made history by winning bronze in the men’s decathlon, becoming the first Indian to secure a medal in the event at a major international multi-sport competition.
