PM Modi Arrives in Mysuru to Inaugurate Viveka Memorial

Mysuru, Aug 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mysuru on Saturday to inaugurate the Viveka Memorial at Ramakrishna Vidyashala, a centre commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to the city in 1892.

Upon his arrival at the Mysuru helipad, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar welcomed the Prime Minister by presenting him with a shawl and bouquet. Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was also present to receive Modi.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre and Viveka Smaraka at the Ramakrishna Ashrama. The memorial marks an important chapter in Swami Vivekananda’s spiritual journey across India, before his celebrated address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893.

The Prime Minister’s visit has prompted extensive security arrangements across Mysuru, with the city witnessing heightened police deployment, road closures and traffic restrictions.

More than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed for security under the supervision of South Zone Inspector General of Police M.B. Boralingaiah. The security arrangement includes one Superintendent of Police, one Police Commissioner, four Additional Superintendents of Police, 18 Police Inspectors, 40 Sub-Inspectors, 550 male police personnel, 350 women police personnel and 250 Home Guards.

Security has been intensified around key locations, including the Ramakrishna Ashrama, Oval Grounds, Mysuru Airport and the Prime Minister’s convoy route. Authorities have also closed traffic on 12 major roads to facilitate the movement of the VVIP convoy and ensure seamless security arrangements.

During his visit, PM Modi will reach the Viveka Smaraka at the Ramakrishna Ashrama and participate in the inauguration ceremony of the cultural youth centre and memorial. He is also scheduled to visit the Ramakrishna Ashrama School.

Following the engagements, the Prime Minister will proceed to Mysuru Airport and depart for New Delhi aboard a special aircraft.

The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre has been established to commemorate Vivekananda’s association with Mysuru and his visit to the city in 1892. His stay in Mysuru played a significant role in shaping his ideas and spiritual mission before he travelled abroad and represented India at the historic Chicago gathering the following year.

The memorial is expected to serve as a centre for preserving and promoting Vivekananda’s teachings, particularly his message of youth empowerment, cultural awareness, service and nation-building.

Modi’s visit has also placed Mysuru’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage in the national spotlight, with the Viveka Memorial intended to connect the legacy of Swami Vivekananda with younger generations.
