BJP Praises PM Modi’s Decision to Forgive Students, Calls It an Example of Compassionate Leadership

Bhogapuram (Andhra Pradesh), Aug 2026 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for choosing forgiveness and guidance over punitive action against students who allegedly used abusive language against him during recent protests, describing his response as a demonstration of statesmanship, maturity and compassionate leadership.

BJP leaders said Modi’s decision to forgive the students and appeal to them to correct their behaviour reflected a broader approach of treating young people as an important part of the nation’s future rather than responding to their mistakes with retaliation.

The party’s comments came a day after Modi released a video message on his official Instagram account, saying he wanted to speak directly to the country’s youth. Referring to the recent protests at Jantar Mantar, the Prime Minister said some “mischievous youngsters” had used language that was inappropriate for a civilised society.

Modi noted that the abusive remarks had targeted not only him but also his late mother. While acknowledging the anger and shock expressed by people over the incident, he said mistakes could occur during childhood and that young age also provided an opportunity to recognise and correct such mistakes.

The Prime Minister said he wanted to forgive the students and urged society to guide them rather than permanently condemn them. He emphasised that punishing them, subjecting them to prolonged legal proceedings or harassing them socially would not necessarily change their behaviour.

His remarks drew an immediate response from BJP leaders, who portrayed the message as an example of leadership that prioritised reform and reconciliation.

BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said Modi had demonstrated an “extraordinary heart” by forgiving the students despite the fact that offensive remarks had reportedly been directed at both him and his late mother.

Shahdeo said the Prime Minister’s appeal to the youngsters to abandon abusive behaviour and instead contribute to nation-building reflected the qualities of a statesman.

He also contrasted Modi’s response with the political history of the country, referring to the Emergency imposed during the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

According to Shahdeo, while protests during the Indira Gandhi era had resulted in the imposition of the Emergency, Modi had chosen to respond to the latest controversy by forgiving the students and encouraging them to follow a constructive path.

BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain similarly praised Modi, saying the Prime Minister had spoken not merely in his constitutional capacity but as a guardian concerned about the country’s young people.

Hussain said Modi had shown restraint despite the alleged offensive remarks against his late mother and argued that the issue should not be turned into a political controversy.

Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi also praised the Prime Minister’s approach, describing him as a leader with an “exceptionally large and compassionate heart.”

Saraogi said the remarks made during the protest had caused widespread outrage because they allegedly targeted Modi as well as his late mother. However, he said the Prime Minister had chosen to guide and forgive the young people involved.

Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said Modi’s response carried a broader message about leadership, sensitivity and public conduct.

Naqvi contrasted what he described as the Prime Minister’s sensitivity with the “feudal arrogance” of some political opponents. He alleged that Modi had repeatedly been subjected to personal attacks and accused an unnamed “abuse gang” of attempting to use different sections of society, including youth, farmers, women and students, as instruments for political campaigns.

The BJP leaders’ statements come amid a wider political debate over protests, the conduct of demonstrators and the use of offensive language in political discourse.

By publicly choosing forgiveness, Modi has sought to shift the focus from punishment to correction and responsibility. His message also placed emphasis on society’s role in guiding young people who make mistakes.

The Prime Minister’s intervention has given the BJP an opportunity to highlight what it describes as a more conciliatory model of political leadership, contrasting it with confrontational responses to dissent in earlier periods.

The party has also sought to frame the episode as a reminder that political disagreements and protests should not cross the boundaries of civil discourse, while maintaining that young protesters should be given an opportunity to learn from their mistakes and contribute positively to society.
