BCCI Announces ₹131 Crore Reward for Team India After T20 World Cup 2026 Triumph

Mumbai, March 2026 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive cash reward of ₹131 crore for the India national cricket team following their historic victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

The reward recognises the team’s outstanding performance in successfully defending their T20 World Cup title on home soil—an achievement that has placed India firmly in the record books of international cricket. The BCCI stated that the prize money will be shared among the players, support staff and selectors who contributed to the team’s triumphant campaign.

In an official statement, the BCCI congratulated the squad and acknowledged their remarkable accomplishment. “The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a cash reward of ₹131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future,” the statement read.

The reward represents an increase from the ₹125 crore announced by the board after India’s previous T20 World Cup victory in 2024, when the team was led by Rohit Sharma. That win had marked India’s first T20 World Cup triumph since the inaugural edition in 2007.

In the 2026 edition, however, India achieved an even greater milestone under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, becoming the first team in the history of the tournament to successfully defend the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. With the victory, India also became the first nation to win the tournament three times and the first to lift the trophy on home soil.

Apart from the BCCI’s reward, the team also earned significant prize money from the International Cricket Council (ICC). After defeating New Zealand national cricket team in the final, India received the tournament’s winner’s purse of USD 2.34 million (approximately ₹21.5 crore). New Zealand, who finished as runners-up, were awarded USD 1.17 million (around ₹10.75 crore).

The final itself was a dominant display by the hosts. Batting first, India posted a massive 253 for five, the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final. The innings was anchored by an explosive knock from Sanju Samson, who scored a brilliant 89 runs, setting the stage for India’s commanding victory.

India’s bowlers then completed the job in emphatic style. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah delivered a sensational performance, claiming four wickets for just 14 runs, which proved decisive in dismantling New Zealand’s batting lineup.

New Zealand were eventually bowled out well short of the target, handing India a comprehensive 96-run victory and confirming their third T20 World Cup title.

Samson’s outstanding form throughout the tournament saw him finish with 321 runs in five innings, earning him the Player of the Series award. Bumrah, meanwhile, was named Player of the Match for his match-winning spell in the final.

India’s triumph has further strengthened their position as one of the most dominant teams in the shortest format of international cricket, with the historic title defence marking a new milestone in the country’s cricketing legacy.
