Chapchar Kut 2026 Art & Photo Exhibition Inaugurated in Aizawl

Aizawl, March 2026: Betsy Zothanpari Sailo, Secretary of the Information & Public Relations, Printing & Stationery (IPRP&S) Department, today inaugurated the Chapchar Kut 2026 Art & Photo Exhibition at Vanapa Hall as the chief guest. The three-day exhibition has been jointly organised by the Directorate of Information & Public Relations Mizoram, Mizoram Art Development Society (MADS), and the Mizo Photographers’ Society (MPS).

Speaking at the inauguration, Betsy Zothanpari Sailo appreciated the efforts and dedication of artists and photographers. She said that painting and photography are not easy tasks but require strong talent, creativity, and deep thinking. She noted that artists skillfully express their ideas and emotions through their work, which is carefully appreciated by viewers, and expressed hope that their efforts would continue to receive greater recognition and success.

Among those present at the event were Carol VLMS Dawngkimi, Director of the Art & Culture Department Mizoram, along with officers and staff of the I&PR Department, and members of MADS and MPS. The programme was chaired by K. Vanlalsangi, Director of I&PR, who welcomed the guests. She mentioned that the Painting Exhibition for Chapchar Kut has been organised since 2012, while the Photography Exhibition has been held since 2016, and expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation and dedication of MADS and MPS.

Vanlalhriata, President of MADS, and Zoramchhana, President of MPS, highlighted the activities and contributions of their respective organisations. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Pratap Chhetri, Deputy Director of I&PR.

The Chapchar Kut 2026 Art & Photo Exhibition will be open to visitors from March 11 to March 13, 2026, and visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase the artworks and photographs displayed. Prior to the exhibition, MADS organised an Art Camp under the theme “Zozia”, in which 68 members participated.

A total of 107 artworks and creative pieces are being exhibited, including 5 pencil/charcoal drawings, 3 mixed media works, 3 sculptures, 13 watercolour paintings, 80 acrylic paintings, and 3 oil paintings. In addition, the Mizo Photographers’ Society has displayed 126 selected photographs chosen from submissions made by 39 photographers.
