Srinagar Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against Farooq Abdullah in JKCA Scam Case

Srinagar, March 2026 : A court in Srinagar on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant against former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah in connection with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam case.

According to official sources, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Srinagar rejected Abdullah’s plea seeking exemption from personal appearance during the hearing. Following the rejection of his application, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him and scheduled the next hearing in the matter for March 30, 2026.

The order was passed during a court session that had been scheduled for the framing of charges in the case. The proceedings relate to alleged financial irregularities in the functioning of the JKCA during the period when Abdullah served as the President of the cricket body.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has been probing the matter, had earlier filed a chargesheet against several accused, including Abdullah. The charges were filed under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

Investigators alleged that funds meant for the development of cricket in the region were misappropriated during Abdullah’s tenure as the head of the association. The CBI probe focused on alleged embezzlement and financial mismanagement within the JKCA, with claims that a substantial amount of money was diverted instead of being used for cricket development activities.

Besides Farooq Abdullah, the chargesheet also named several former JKCA officials as accused in the case. These include Ahsan Ahmad Mirza, Mohd Saleem Khan, and Bashir Ahmad Misgar, who were associated with the administration of the cricket body during the period under investigation.

The case has been under legal scrutiny for several years, with the CBI alleging a multi-crore misappropriation of funds within the association. The latest order from the Srinagar court marks a significant development in the proceedings as the matter moves closer to the trial stage.

Meanwhile, the development in the legal case comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir cricket has recently achieved a historic milestone on the national stage. The Jammu and Kashmir team recently won its maiden Ranji Trophy title in the 2025–26 season after defeating Karnataka in the final.

In the championship match, Jammu and Kashmir posted an impressive total of 584 runs in their first innings, while restricting Karnataka to 293 runs, securing a decisive first-innings lead of 291 runs in the drawn final to clinch the title.
