‘Lemchan – Mizoram Film Festival 2026’ Inaugurated in Mizoram; IPRP&S Minister Opens the Festival
Aizawl, March 2026: The three-day Lemchan – Mizoram Film Festival 2026, jointly organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, National Film Development Corporation, and the Directorate of Information and Public Relations Mizoram, was inaugurated today at the I&PR Office, Treasury Square in Aizawl.
The inaugural function was held at the mini-theatre in Lianchhiari Run, where B. Lalchhanzova officially opened the festival.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Lalchhanzova expressed happiness at the organisation of the first edition of the festival in Mizoram. He said the state is rich in talented and creative individuals. According to him, the film festival will serve as an important platform for Mizo filmmakers to showcase their skills and present Mizo stories to a wider global audience. He also expressed hope for stronger collaboration with filmmakers from other regions and countries.
The Minister highlighted that films are powerful tools for communication, entertainment and education. He said the film industry provides an excellent opportunity for Mizo youth to showcase their talents. Emphasising its importance, he noted that filmmaking can also create employment opportunities and serve as a sustainable source of livelihood for young people. He added that the government will continue to support initiatives that nurture the talents of Mizo youth and enable them to contribute more effectively to society through cinema. He wished all filmmakers, artists and participants a joyful and productive festival.
Betsy Zothanpari Sailo welcomed the participants and praised the initiative taken by the I&PR Directorate to organise the festival. She also thanked the distinguished film professionals who travelled from different parts of India to participate in the event despite their busy schedules.
Renowned Bollywood actress and filmmaker Lillete Dubey, who was invited as a special guest, also addressed the gathering during the opening ceremony. She expressed her delight at being invited to attend the Mizoram Film Festival and noted that cinema and music retain their value across generations. She said they play a vital role in connecting people from diverse cultures and languages.
Gouri Nair also spoke at the event and expressed hope that the festival would become an important catalyst for the growth and development of the film industry in Mizoram and the wider Northeast region.
The Lemchan – Mizoram Film Festival 2026 will be held from March 16 to 18, 2026 at the I&PR Office, Treasury Square. During the three-day festival, participants will have opportunities to attend workshops and interactive sessions conducted by film professionals. The festival will also feature screenings of selected films from different states of India as well as Mizo films.
Film professionals from various states across India have been invited to participate in the festival, making it an important platform for exchange of ideas, learning and collaboration in the field of cinema.
