‘Dhurandhar 2’ First Review Sparks Massive Buzz, Ram Gopal Varma Calls It a Game-Changer
Mumbai, March 2026 : The much-anticipated action drama Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Dutt, has hit theatres with an ‘A’ certificate, opening to massive buzz and high expectations. Released on a large scale with pre-previews, the film has already captured audience attention, especially after the success of its first installment.
Even before its official release, the film received a glowing early review from veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, whose remarks have significantly heightened anticipation. Known for classics like Satya, Varma described Dhurandhar 2 as a “turning point” in Indian cinema.
Taking to social media platform X, Varma shared his first reaction after watching the film, claiming that its impact—ranging from box office potential and audience response to cinematic innovation—is unprecedented. He went so far as to say that the film could be “100 times more grand” than the iconic Sholay and make classics like Mughal-e-Azam appear ordinary in comparison.
Varma emphasised the film’s “psychological visual impact” and bold storytelling, calling it the beginning of a new cinematic era. “This is the birth of a new cinematic world and the end of the old,” he remarked, adding that even globally acclaimed directors like Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan should watch the film “first day, first show.”
The film, directed by Aditya Dhar, has also earned high praise from Varma, who called it a “quantum leap” for Hindi cinema. He even suggested that in the future, the term “director” could become synonymous with Aditya Dhar’s name, highlighting the filmmaker’s vision and execution.
With a runtime of 3 hours, 49 minutes, and 6 seconds, the film has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification with minor cuts. The narrative revolves around an intense face-off between Hamza Ali and Major Iqbal, while also delving into Hamza Ali’s backstory—from a prison inmate to an Indian spy on a high-stakes mission.
Apart from Ranveer Singh, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal and R. Madhavan in pivotal roles. The storyline combines espionage, action, and emotional depth, making it a gripping cinematic experience.
Despite rumours circulating online about alleged leaks of film clips, the makers have dismissed such claims, maintaining that the film remains secure ahead of its global release.
Trade analysts are already predicting a record-breaking performance at the box office. Advance bookings have reportedly been robust, with paid previews generating significant revenue. Early estimates suggest the film could cross ₹100 crore on its opening day and potentially surpass ₹300 crore over its opening weekend, positioning it among the biggest releases of the year.
Scheduled for worldwide release on March 19, 2026, in multiple languages, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has created a wave of excitement among audiences. With sky-high expectations and strong early endorsements, all eyes are now on whether the film will live up to the hype and redefine the benchmarks of Indian cinema, as predicted by Ram Gopal Varma.
