Indian Oil Tanker ‘Jag Laadki’ Docks Safely at Mundra, Boosting Energy Supply Chain
Bhuj, March 2026 : The Indian-flagged crude oil tanker Jag Laadki has successfully docked at the Mundra terminal operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone in Gujarat, carrying approximately 80,886 metric tonnes of crude oil sourced from the United Arab Emirates.
According to port officials, the vessel was loaded at Fujairah Port and reached Mundra on Wednesday after a smooth voyage. The tanker is a large-capacity vessel, measuring over 274 metres in length with a beam of 50 metres, and boasting a deadweight tonnage of around 1.64 lakh tonnes.
A spokesperson for Adani Ports confirmed that the berthing of the vessel was facilitated through proper maritime coordination to ensure safe and secure docking procedures. The port continues to play a critical role in strengthening India’s energy infrastructure by efficiently handling large volumes of essential imports.
The crude oil carried by Jag Laadki is expected to be discharged for use in domestic refinery operations. Such shipments are crucial for maintaining steady fuel production and ensuring the country’s energy security, especially at a time when global supply chains are facing disruptions due to geopolitical tensions.
The arrival of the tanker comes shortly after two Indian-flagged LPG carriers—Shivalik and Nanda Devi—successfully delivered liquefied petroleum gas to ports in Gujarat. These vessels navigated through the strategically sensitive Strait of Hormuz, ensuring the supply of a key fuel widely used by households and industries.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical routes for global energy trade, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil shipments. Recent regional tensions had raised concerns over maritime security, prompting proactive diplomatic and logistical measures by Indian authorities to safeguard energy transportation routes.
Despite these challenges, officials have reassured that India’s energy supply remains stable and sufficient to meet domestic demand.
Cargo discharge operations at Mundra are set to proceed under strict safety and environmental guidelines, overseen by port authorities and refinery representatives. The successful arrival and handling of such large shipments highlight the resilience of India’s energy logistics network amid an evolving global scenario.
