KCR Drew Over ₹1 Crore Without Attending Assembly, Says CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad, March 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition K. Chandrasekhar Rao, alleging that the former Chief Minister drew more than ₹1.06 crore in salaries and allowances despite repeatedly skipping Assembly sessions.

Addressing the Assembly late Wednesday night, Revanth Reddy stated that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president received ₹1,06,56,674 in salary and allowances from December 1, 2023, to March 18, even as he remained largely absent from the proceedings of the House. The Chief Minister raised concerns over the propriety of elected representatives drawing public money without fulfilling their legislative responsibilities.

During his reply to the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, Revanth Reddy urged Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to consider taking action against legislators who fail to attend Assembly sessions despite continuing to receive salaries and benefits. He stressed that the issue was not directed at any single individual but was a broader concern regarding accountability in public life.

Referring to observations by the Supreme Court that define elected representatives as public servants, the Chief Minister questioned whether such individuals should be entitled to salaries and allowances without performing their duties. He suggested that the Assembly should hold a detailed discussion and arrive at a policy decision on the matter.

Revanth Reddy also emphasised the importance of the Leader of Opposition actively participating in legislative debates. He noted that meaningful discussions in the House benefit governance and public welfare, and said he was extending an open invitation to KCR, through the Speaker, to attend the sessions and contribute constructively.

The Chief Minister further criticised KCR for not attending key ceremonial and institutional events, including the occasion to welcome the newly appointed Governor, Shiv Pratap Shukla. He said it was expected that the Leader of Opposition would meet the Governor and extend greetings, in keeping with democratic traditions.

Expressing disappointment, Revanth Reddy said he had also hoped that KCR would share his insights during the debate on the Governor’s address, given his experience as a former Chief Minister. He termed it “unfortunate” that established traditions of the Assembly and the cultural ethos of Telangana were not upheld in this regard.

He also pointed out that the government had expected the presence of the Leader of Opposition during the unveiling of the ‘Telangana Thalli’ statue in the Assembly premises, an event presided over by the Governor. According to the Chief Minister, such occasions call for unity and respect across party lines.

Taking a broader swipe at the BRS, Revanth Reddy accused its leaders of continuing to display arrogance even after losing power. He remarked that some leaders still behave as though they are above democratic accountability, likening their approach to outdated autocratic tendencies.

“We are still witnessing autocratic attitudes among certain leaders, even though monarchies have long ceased to exist. Such behavior undermines democratic values,” he said, adding that the people had already delivered their verdict against such governance styles.

In a significant announcement, the Chief Minister said the government is willing to constitute a fact-finding committee to examine allegations of encroachments and demolitions carried out both during the previous BRS regime and under the current administration. He maintained that transparency and accountability would remain central to his government’s approach.
