Pinarayi Vijayan Declares Assets Above ₹1 Crore, Files Nomination from Dharmadam
Kannur, March 2026 : Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his wife Kamala have declared combined deposits exceeding ₹1 crore, according to the affidavit submitted along with his nomination papers for the Dharmadam Assembly constituency on Thursday.
Kerala is set to go to the polls on April 9 to elect 140 members to its Legislative Assembly, and Vijayan’s candidature is among the most closely watched in the state.
As per the affidavit, Vijayan has bank deposits amounting to ₹43.35 lakh, while his wife Kamala holds ₹60.58 lakh. In terms of immovable assets, Vijayan owns 78 cents of land, while Kamala possesses 17.5 cents of land at Onchiyam. She also owns 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The affidavit further states that the couple has no outstanding liabilities.
The disclosure also mentions that three criminal cases are pending against Vijayan, although he has not been convicted in any of them.
Vijayan, contesting as the candidate of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), filed his nomination papers at the Thalassery Sub Registrar Office before Returning Officer Sachin Krishna. He was accompanied by senior leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), including E. P. Jayarajan, A. N. Shamseer, and K. K. Ragesh.
This election marks the seventh time Vijayan is contesting Assembly polls, reflecting a political career that spans more than five decades. He first entered electoral politics in 1970 at the age of 25 from Kuthuparamba, a constituency he won three times. He later represented Payyannur once before shifting to Dharmadam, from where he is now seeking a third consecutive term.
While the filing of nomination papers is a routine step in the electoral process, the Dharmadam contest holds particular importance as Vijayan aims to maintain his political momentum in a keenly contested election. The constituency has been a stronghold for him in recent years, and his candidacy remains central to the LDF’s overall campaign strategy.
After submitting his nomination, Vijayan briefly interacted with the media, stating that he would address election-related questions at a later stage. He then proceeded to campaign engagements in Dharmadam and is scheduled to travel to Malappuram later in the day as part of his outreach efforts.
As the election campaign gathers pace, Vijayan’s leadership and electoral performance are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the prospects of the LDF in Kerala.
